I have 5 DD214's all issued prior to 1979. All of them are one short form and say either "Character of Service" or "Type of Transfer of Discharge," (depending on the date of the form) and all say "Honorable" in those blocks. I'm not sure when the "long form" in addition to the "short form" came into use, but in 1978 and prior, there was only one form (8 1/2 x 11), and showed the type/character of discharge.MeMelYup wrote:You have a short copy and a long copy. The long copy has a white area at the bottom of it that states that you have a honorable, etc. discharge with other information.Bryanmc wrote:I submitted a copy of the DD-214 that I was given in '80 when I was discharged (honorably). I don't see anywhere on it that indicates the type of discharge it was. Am I not seeing it somewhere, and if it's not there, are they going to kick my application back? I'd call them and ask, but you know how that works...MeMelYup wrote: Yes. You can copy it in digital format and send it. It must be a copy of the one showing type of discharge.
