I do not have FB so I'm not sure of the details he posted on the FB page but this should be interesting.

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
Ok, official word from Eric is that he lost count around 1200 signatures on the petition. So we know there was at least 1200 people at the rally.
Stay tuned for more info on upcoming call to action. This one will be more convenient and have much more time to be organized about.

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
I will should find out the number. I was curious too. I know my clip board was completely full and I had a few people sign outside the boxes. I do not know what the other petitions looked like turned in but towards the end 9 out of 10 I asked had already signed the petition.geekwagun wrote:Bennies wrote:I think overall the rally went really well! It was great getting to meet some of you forum members! Sorry I couldn't hang out and chat a little longer.
Do you know what the total number of people that signed the petition that was going around?
It was difficult to hear everything from the back, the loud speakers were not placed high enough in the air to project to the back with all the people - my only negative complaint/comment about the rally.
I was glad to see all the people that showed up - reminds me of the start of the Tea Party rally's in 2009

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
I will pass the appreciation along to Eric. I don't know what he plans to do next( my guess is take a well deserved rest over the next few days) but ill let him know that he has people that are willing to help. Nice meeting you there.74novaman wrote:It's alright, you had work to do with that petition!Bennies wrote: Sorry I couldn't hang out and chat a little longer.
I know you said you know the organizer, so I'd to convey my thanks to him for organizing such an excellent event on such short notice, and offer to lend a hand if his group decides to do anything else.
The rally today was great because it showed us that there are lots of people willing to fight for our rights. Now we need to keep working together to preserve them.
Seriously, anything I can do to help yall out, let me know.

Media will be there it has been confirmed. Good news is there is designated media spokesperson.airboss wrote:If there are media types there, you can feel free to assume they are not on our side. 1- The media could take video of Mother Theresa and splice it in such a way to make her look like an idiot. And if someone from the media puts a microphone and/or camera in front of you, resist the temptation and ...
2- direct any questions to someone in a leadership position (not sure specifically who that is yet but...) who ought to be expecting the 'gotcha' questioning and have a responsible counter.
Bottom line, is that we are responsible, law-abiding, tax paying citizens peacefully gathering to ensure our Constitutional rights. I'll be there.
My dos pesos.

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
Just a heads up.... If anyone reads USA today, Eric was not quoted correctly. It stated that he supported the closing of background check loopholes. Whatever those are! It was almost as they were making it seem he wanted a background check for all sales. He did not say anything to this nature and that is 100% made up! Nice huh?
So we need to make sure we cross our T's and dot our I's on Saturday. We can not rely on the media for non biased coverage. They will be looking for any excuse to nail gun owners.

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
Wow ok I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. I talked to the organizer today about the quote in question. He absolutely agrees that the wording was very poor and his intent was not to bash LEOs. Again he is a former sheriffs deputy so he is not anti LEO. In fact he lined up Sheriff Mack as a speaker. He told me he wanted to delete that portion of the web page and re-write. I don't know when as he was headed to work when I talked with him.
I hope we can stay united as gun owners and not fight eachother.

Apologies for incorrectly assuming this was your FB page and organization. This was your first post (or one of your first), right? I guess that's where I got the idea.
I stand by the rest of my comments. But have no ill will toward you and will take this up with the FB page directly.
I won't be attending until I get a satisfactory answer (and will post here what I find out). I don't like infighting anymore than anyone else, but I won't associate myself with any group that takes unprovoked pot shots at law enforcement.
I will admit that is a poorly written sentence on the website and can lead to an interperitation of LEO bashing. However, I know Eric (the organizer) and I know he did not mean any malice behind the statement. He actually was a sheriff Deputy in Arizona so I don't see him holding contempt for LEOs. He knows the majority of LEOs are pro gun. I can ask him for clarification of the website but I can assure you he meant no disrespect. Please don't let that from keeping you from attending.

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
We just had a conference call and signs were one of the topics. Pretty much anything that will positively assert unilateral support of the second amendment will be great! It is the hope that the signs will be made that show gun owners in a positive light (no Obscenities or the thing that would cast gun owners in a bad light). I'm still trying to figure out what I will be putting on mine. Anyone have any good ideas? My wife has been Brian storming with me.tommyg wrote:I'm working on my protest sign for the 19th at the capitol any ideas on what it should say

Re: Rally in Austin on 1/19
Wow, I was very discouraged that no one commented on my other thread about the demonstration, I had no idea there was another thread running! Very cool.
The organizer (Eric) was contacted by nutnfancy Tuesday night and whoa this thing really is taking off after he made his video.
In regards to permits, originally the way the protest was setup non was required. However, this thing seems to be changing by the hour and last I talked to Eric one was being applied for to hold the protest actually on the steps of the state capital. We will see. Eric has literally been working almost every hour he is awake making phone calls and trying to iron out details. There might be a need for administrative help of some kind. I am out of the country right now so I will follow up with him when I get back. This was all literally put together a week ago. Much to be done!
