You're comparing high visibility issues with sweeping which is very different. Because 1 state tweeks a law that makes it OK to carry openly for example, doens't make them a state that was able to make "sweeping changes". Texas is unique. Unfortunately it's also very popular with those in other states and a very wide spread in socioeconomic status leaving a lot of folks that cut hard left because they want the teet to stay in there mouth and there are politicians, especially in bog cities that will pander to them, keeping them in office for their own gain. Anything they can do to "save their peeps" makes them a hero and if they can shoot down expanding gun rights to make their peeps feel safer on their crime infested streets, they will. They just don't realize that crime is a necessary tool to keep the fear.

Get all that crap out of politics and you'll see sweeping changes of truly common sense.

I'll share a comment from a recent transplant to Texas. He lives in north Texas, north of DFW. In regards to Obamacare he proclaims that "they" meaning people like him who have come here to live, will ignore all the neanderthal rednecks and fix this state whether we like it or not. It's not an uncommon thought amongst liberal escapees from toilet bowl cities and states that they need to bring the very things that made the place the kind of place you want to move away from. Where will that border fence do the most good? Not on the south that's for sure.

Perry is good at giving lip service and signing his name, but he lacks the leadership needed to rally support. Texas needs better than Perry.

But yet abortion is important? From the chart at the bottom of this link http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/sfaa/texas.html it says in 2008 there were 16.5 abortion per 1000 women, so if my math is correct that is 1.6% percent of women have an abortion, compared to 3-18% of all texans having a CHL. I fail to see his priorities. Maybe if Perry just came out and stated his reasons for this it might be a little easier to take but still does not change anything.

You can't be serious? It's obvious you're not a liberal politician or with the Media, otherwise you'd be a whole lot better at manipulating/destroying statistics.

But let's check your math. 3-18% of Texans with CHL's? That's a massive spread and even 3% way high. There are roughly 600k CHL's issued and about 28 MILLION Texans. Abortion, as much of a political issue as it is and I'm not taking the topic there, directly impacts every female of childbearing age at minimum (15-44), which is about 5.8 million. Obviously that age range is pretty tight so the number is light.

In really rough and very simple numbers, Legislation that impacts CHL holders impacts about .02% of Texans and Legislation pertaining abortion impacts about 21% of Texans.

That should make the issue a little more clear even if I'm off with numbers.

I find it odd that there are still people that seem to be on deck to launch a recall campaign over gun rights bills. The Governor is the Governor of the entire state of Texas, not just the fraction of 1% of Texans that have CHL's that these bills would effect.
