Better accuracy and less weight out of a rifle firing a cartridge of roughly equal range and ballistics. Better ammo availability. And being U.S. manufactured, parts availability might be better.
Plus, and I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in my opinion, the PSL is just butt-ugly, and an M1A is a thing of beauty with classic lines.
Now, compare that to the PSL:
You see that? You can drape something ugly in a satin sheet, and it is still ugly! Howabout that?
