A passer-by observed the robbery and called the police, who turned out like gangbusters.
The robbers realized that they were having a really bad day and tried to flee through a rear door.
The victims then took the opportunity to run out the front entrance. The older man immediately identified himself as the victim. The younger man reportedly ran into a police officer who had a drawn sidearm. The younger man was fatally shot.
A police spokesman pronounced the shooting an accident.
All three robbers have been apprehended and charged with murder.
Two unusual aspects:
- One suspect fled straight to the police, claiming that he had been held hostage. The police did not believe him, and arrested him.
- A second suspect was found tied up in the store, also claiming to have been held hostage.
I'm glad I don't have to pay for the liability insurance of the NYPD.
