Almost all aspects of violent crime have been on a downward swing since the early 90's..

Here's a good graph overlaying a lot of different trend lines (I'll post a link to the page, since the graphic is rather large..)

Interesting that the south saw the largest decrease in overall violent crime (due to the decrease in robbery, aggravated assault, etc) but has the only + number on the tanks- burglaries up by 0.7%.
