Good stuff; I've always been a fan of buying what I want. Sometimes you buy what others want and end up with buyer's remorse because you settled instead of getting what you want. Always follow your gut. Don't forget to post a range report.Monker10 wrote:Thanks to everyone for your opinions and great advice. I looked at several of the weapons you mentions and there are some really excellent ones out there. In a perfect world I would like to own them all but that doesn't exist. The Barrett rec7 I was eyeing at buds gun shop popped up again for the same price and as I was saddened that the first one was gone I took the leap and purchased this one. It was a bit more pricy than most of the other ar's but since this will more than likely be my first and only ar I want one I can trust. Again while several of the other rifles mentioned in this tread are great I really liked the engineering simplicity of the rec 7. (just my own humble opinion). The piston system is similar to my dsa sa58 and I have confidence in that rifle. I also liked that the the bolt and bolt carrier are nickel Teflon coated like some of the other higher end ar's that I would have had to special order and pay more for. Let's hope that my gut was right in buying this rifle. I will post my Impressions and range report when it comes in. Take care.

Re: Barrett rec 7 in 5.56 opinions
I believe the reason Remington is handkeing the military version is because Remington already has a branch that supplies the military. Bushmaster and Remington have the same parent company; I don't really see anything "elitist" about it. On the original topic; I have heard good things about Barret rifles but you could probably get an equally good rifle for less coin.
