Mine came today too. Took 8 days for the mail!
Just 30 days since it arrived at DPS!

Congrats Sixline! Still waiting on my plastic. Your mail turnaround time should be quick.

So you don't want to leave the house unarmed?randomoutburst wrote:No dice for us either. Hubby had his holster and weapon, I had my camera...we were ready. Getting the mail was a big disappointment. We're also going out of town tomorrow but are going to hold off leaving until the mail comes.KingofKaty wrote:Still nothing in the mail. And I'm leaving town tomorrow. I am leaving for the airport this morning so I have to wait until Thursday.

Waiting on the postman I think is worse than waiting on DPS.

Re: November 2009 Applications
No joy in the mailbox tonight. The holiday will add an extra day or two to the time.
Anyone else approved last week get their license yet?

Re: November 2009 Applications
Congrats Randomburst! I would guess nobody is working at DPS on CHLs on Thanksgiving. So likely the status changed yesterday. By my count that makes 7 or 8 forum members who were all approved on Wednesday. Kudos to DPS for pushing applications out the door!

Re: November 2009 Applications
It just keeps getting better. The Crossbreed Holster I ordered on Friday (11/20) arrived in the mail today! Does anybody know why the Wild Cherry Lifesavers?
And the answer to the question you are probably asking yourself is, yes. At least for a couple of days in the house until it is broken in and I get used to it.

Re: November 2009 Applications
For those of you keeping score - that is 23 days from mailing in the application to complete and just 16 days from processing application to complete. And just 26 days after taking the CHL.
The holidays might slow down issuing my plastic, but I should be Wally Walking soon!
What do I attribute the short processing time to?
Lived more than 5 years in Fort Bend County
Never arrested or any problems with the law
Ditto- alcohol, drugs, etc.
Filled everything out online before taking CHL class
Used FAST for fingerprints before taking CHL class
Professional passport photos
And last but not least - joined texaschlforum.com

Re: November 2009 Applications
OMG! Just checked my status. It says "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"
Could I have set the record for the shortest CHL issue? I'll wait until I actually see the permit, but wow that was fast!

Re: November 2009 Applications
Sorry you have had trouble.
Or it could be the luck of the draw on whoever is processing applications. Some examiners may be more picky than others. Maybe some examiners don't like their assignment to CHL processing. Who knows.
You can't control things on their end, but you can put your application and other materials in the best shape possible. I had a professional photographer at work, who does thousands of passport/visa photos, run me an extra set for the CHL, not someone who does it once in a while on the side. At my CHL class the instructor put the photo paper in wrongside up.
We'll see how fast my application is processed. It may not make any diference at all.

Re: November 2009 Applications
At least it proves that DPS is opening its mail. My theory was to get submitted before the holidays, and hope I had the plastic by the end of the year.
I had all my forms filled out before the CHL class. I noticed that the return envelope for my online application had a different PO Box and zip code in Austin than the packet that the CHL instructor was using. Maybe the online ones go through a quicker process.
Others have said that they didn't think the online application saved any time. Maybe not, but it might save data entry mistakes.

Re: November 2009 Applications
DPS must have worked off the backlog. My status changed today to "Processing Application" less than a week after mailing everything off.
Keeping my fingers crossed that things will continue to go smoothly.
Filled out online application. No trouble with the law. Fingerprints submitted electronically through L-1 Identity Solutions.

November 2009 Applications
Someone suggested that I start a new topic for November, I appear to be the first one.
I mailed my completed packet off to DPS this morning, certified but no return receipt.
I applied online and did my fingerprinting through FAST. Hope this makes the process go faster. I have several hawaian shirts and can't wait to do the Wally Walk!
