Re: Fort Worth Zoo Daycare

Scott Farkus wrote:Maybe I missed it but what are the "advantages" to the Zoo to claim it's a daycare? To my knowledge, daycares aren't statutorily off-limits for licensed carry so how does this impact the validity of a 30.06 sign?
They are not off-limits to CHL carry, however, the social-service agency that regulates them may have some rules regarding the presence of firearms in the facility. This could result in the problem where they cannot prohibit licensed carry (due to being on government property), yet could lose their daycare license (if they actually have one) if they DON'T prevent it. Ultimately, that seems to me to be a problem for THEM, not a problem for the CHL.

I'm making some assumptions here, as I am not familiar with daycare licensing laws. And of course am not a lawyer.

Is there a reason NOT to inundate them with forms?
No legal reason, but I don't want the media and zoos to point to the "gun community" and say we're just trying to be obstructive. There's every reason not to bury the AG's office with complaints and that's the next step in the process.

Chas.
OK, makes sense.

The Zoo has posted a "notice" on its website.

Interesting...And the wording they choose is NOT the wording in the statue, plus it is English only. One would only hope that more people would try to consolidate the language on signs like this:

NO FIREARMS: Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of a license
to carry a concealed handgun) and Section 30.07, Penal code (handgun licensing law), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun or with a handgun that is carried openly.
Since it's not a sign, it doesn't need the Spanish translation (or the 1" letters). But the wording is a mish-mash of 30.06 + 30.07.
