Annoyed Man,
As I said, there are no right or wrong answers, only personal decisions. There are so many scenarios and “what if’s” that there is no one answer that fits all.
This is a good thread though because it gives all who read it food for thought.
Dan, if you were far enough away and had a gun, you would have time to order the man to drop the knife.

Re: Will you shoot?
To the annoyed man.
“Then there is the question of skill level and competence. Someone without proper training, or without enough physical capacity, can actually get in the way of the efforts of more qualified people. I'm a fat older man who is a competent (but not great) shot at the range when nobody is shooting back, and I have some physical limitations. I've never had any "tactical" training. In fact, one of the reasons (not the only reason, but one of them) I obtained my CHL was because I am increasingly physically unable to defend myself by any other means.”
You and I have some things in common. I am 63, not overweight but disabled and walk with a cane. I too obtained my CHL because I am increasingly physically unable to defend myself and my wife by any other means.
We are discussing personal values and there is no right or wrong.
Personally I consider myself a good shot but if I did not have a gun, I know I would put myself between a shooter and a child or another defenceless person younger than myself and take the bullet. No calculating to it. I am not a hero. I am approaching the end of my life and if there is any possibility I could give a young person the opportunity to enjoy as much life as I have, and to make the contribution I have, it would be worth it.
Many others have done as much.

Re: Will you shoot?
I was a Sheriffs’ Deputy for a period of time and placed myself in harm’s way countless times for people I did not know, not only from firearms, but careless speeding drivers while directing traffic around accidents etc.Kevinf2349 wrote:"Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for others"
I would have to live with killing someone, but to me that is easier than living with the thought of being able to do something and not doing so.
I just hope and pray I don't have to make that choice.
Do I need to tell you how I voted?
Kevin, I hope you never have to make that choice either and if you do I hope you go easy on yourself for killing someone if you have no choice.
I know that if the shooting is justified and I had no other choice, it wouldn’t bother me at all.
I would like to say to all that responded that I believe it is good to run as many scenarios like this as possible through your mind. Know what you will do before it happens. That way should a situation occur, you are more likely to react correctly.
One last thing, when you see those red and blue lights, move over if possible but slow down. You never know if the officer will suddenly be in a wrestling match with the perp and stumble into your lane.
