gingrich / rice wouldn't have a chance against obama because this ticket cannot win independents and soft core liberals. although i am a republican, most of my soft core liberal friends will consider ron paul. independents like ron paul, too. however, ron paul is not favored in the republican party by the party machine so he won't win the presidential nomination. however, if he is chosen as newt's running mate, then i just KNOW for SURE that the gingrich/paul ticket would win. gingrich would win all the hard core republican and conservative votes while ron paul would win all the soft core democrat, soft republicans, libertarian, and independent votes.
