Video that answers your question:

He who lives by the gun should realize that he may get shot. The upside is that getting shot is usually survivable if you can stop the bleeding right away. Carry a small pack of QuickClot. I always carry a pack of QuickClot, some Saran Wrap (to stop lungs from collapsing if shot in the chest), gloves, and a CPR mask in my back pocket. It is thinner than a full wallet. I'd rather carry this trauma kit and no wallet than a fat wallet with no trauma kit. IMHO, all you really need from your wallet are your DL, CHL, 1 credit card, and some cash. That stack of business cards and receipts in your wallet are useless. Ditch them and put a trauma kit in your wallet instead.

So, shoot your assailants and possibly get shot in the process, but be prepared and you'll probably survive. Let's put it this way, every gun shot wound victim I've ever treated in my E.R. with a handgun wound who got immediate adequate first aid survived.

If you just hand over your wallet and hope for the best, just pray that the wallet is the ONLY thing that they want. What if they also want your child? What if it's rape? What if.... If you don't fight back, then your life is in their hands. When you fight back, your life is in your hands!
