Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

Bite your tongue. Took me three times to pass the driving test - I do NOT want to go through that again. :(

I understand what you are saying but the major laws (rape, robbery, murder) do not change ever 2 - 5 years. It looks like they are liberalizing the CHL laws, increasing the number of places someone can go. If a person does NOT keep up w/the law and STILL thinks churches are off limits, I'm good w/that.

OTOH, I heard of instructors still teaching churches are restricted - that's not cool.

Generally, CHL's are not a problem - in any state - regardless of how much/little/if any training they have to take. I'm not sure mandatory training is ever going to be that effective.

I like training and encourage everyone to get trained - but it should be at their desire, not some governmental edict. :(

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

I think you only need to 'sign' saying you have read the new law changes. :)

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

Yes, infoman. All you need to do is renew w/the state and pay them $70 (or $35 if you qualify). (The state still gets their money. :) )

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

Some instructors will drop because of the NRA cert requirement. (and no renewals) :)

I suspect there will be an increased demand for new licenses because the class time is less onerous. :)

Might be a wash or even a positive. :)

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

You can take as long as you want. I doubt if DPS will criticize anyone if the class if longer than 6 hours. Ask your customers how long they want to sit and listen to you. :)

What do you do for renewal students. (I knew an instructor that gave everyone - including renewals - a 15 hour class. :( ). glad I did not have to listen to him. :)

If you can renew someone in 4 hours (cover all the material), you should be able to do an initial class in 6.

Actually, it's not up to us what we want/need/think. The legislature has decided how long it should take. We need to deal with it.

Just glad it's not like Hunter Safety - it's 10 hours too - but HAS to be held over 2 days. :( (Probably makes for a better class. The mind can only absorb what the rear can endure. :) )

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

Who is to decide what onerous?

Does the little old lady getting her chl need the same training as a young guy? She is probably not going to carry. If she does, it will just be to the grocery store.

He may plan to carry. He will be out a lot more, commuting, partying, etc. Probably going to more places.

Does a preacher getting his CHL need the same training as a south Dallas building inspector, plumber or real estate agent?

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

He did not do any harm to our rights in TX. Maybe in CO, but that was their mistake and they are trying to correct it. Trying to recall those legislators.

What part of 'shall not be infringed' do you not understand?

Re: Major advancements for Texas CHL holders

Originally, HB 47 reduced the initial class to 4 hours. I think the Senate bill (and the amended bill finally passed) was changed to 6 hours. Therefore the statement 4 to 6 hours is incorrect. It should be 6 hours and that does NOT include the range time.
