One friend had a first seizure in college, had to quit. Can't drive. Was covered by their parents insurance. That ran out at 25. Has trouble having a regular job with the unexpected seizures.Wodathunkit wrote:philip964 wrote:I have a two friends who through no fault of their own cannot get health insurance. So I just don't understand. When I graduated high school, I had no desire for college so I went to work. I moved out of my dad's home and that is where my health care ended. I went down to State Farm and got me a health insurance policy. It wasn't cheap but it was important so I did it. I started working for companies that offered health insurance. I got married to my high school sweetheart. She had some medical issues that came up and we never wanted the "pre existing condition" tag, so in 22 years of wedded bliss, we've never gone without health care. I don't want DMV health care. Please, don't give me "free health care"
The other was a real estate agent, covered by spouses insurance, got diabetes from a gall stone that got stuck and did not pass, wrecked the pancreas. The spouse lost that job and COBRA ran out.
I had a women friend who wanted to change health insurance companies. They did the normal health research, got a letter back from the new company saying that her past mamograms were unusual, not cancerous, just unusual. They used the word "fiberous". So they would cover her, but not her breasts. I saw the letter it actually said that. So if she had not taken care of herself and not ever had a mamogram, they would have accepted both her and her breasts.
Just don't get me started about the British or Canadian system.
