M&P from S&W and XDs from Springfield Armory are both really good. I want to try the CCP from Walther, which looks really sweet, but I have yet to shoot that . Beretta makes the PX4 Storm in a sub-compact that makes a great ccw. I think it is a bit bigger than some of the competitors but I personally really like the Storm series of handguns and for whatever reason, they seem to be easier to manage in .40 than some of the other pistols I have shot in that caliber. Maybe it is just me.
.40 is snappy and can be a little tough to shoot, especially in a subcompact. While I like .40 in a full-sized handgun, it is a little too much for me to deal with in a sub when it comes to double tapping and fast follow up shots. I go to 9mm for my small sized handguns, but everyone is different.
