Re: July 23-27 instructor class
They use targets that swing counter clockwise into position facing you. When you are signaled to fire, they stay facing you until the time is up for each string and then swing away from you. It is a little disconcerting at first, but the time allowed is no different than the regular CHL test. They do encourage you to shoot all double action, but it is not required. The rationale is we are carrying for self defense and double action shots are what would be used for that. Therefore it is what we should know how to do proficiently. I would practice both ways so you can have a choice either way. I decided the day of the qual to just go with all double action and did just fine. I did have a S&W that has a smooth trigger, though. There are lots of revolvers with a heavier trigger I would have trouble doing that with. Choice of revolver can make a difference.

Re: July 23-27 instructor class
There are some good buys out there right now on K Frame Model 64-5 S&W 4" revolvers in .38. They are turn ins from security companies usually, so the hammer spur is bobbed to shoot only in double action, but they have smooth triggers. They might be a little scratched up from carry but have not been shot much in most cases. There are other good revolvers certainly so this is not the only one, just a reasonably priced one if you are considering a purchase.lowpull wrote:Just wondering if anyone else on here is going to the July 23-27 instructor class? I will be coming from the tiptop of Texas panhandle. So far the only revolver Ive got to shoot for qualification is a 44 mag hogleg.
Good Luck with your class!
