Re: Concealed Carry On Campus Forum at TX State
I was the only one there representing the Round Rock campus, so I'm sure it was my comments to the senate that put the vote over the top.

Re: Concealed Carry On Campus Forum at TX State
I really had to force myself to attend because I fully expected to be of the minority opinion. I couldn't have been more delighted with the turnout and the clear, logical, succinct points made by such young individuals.

Re: Concealed Carry On Campus Forum at TX State
Guys,
I just got back about an hour ago and the student body was overwhelmingly for campus carry. Out of about 75 commenters, there were 3 against (little black girl, overly emotional defensive white girl, and beefy white guy). Sgt. Benitez of the university police started the affair by delivering the tired monologue that the police won't be able to tell the bad guys from the good guys. We all lined up at the mike and took turns unraveling his ridiculous assertions.
Several of us had empty holsters and every pro campus carry comment was met with applause. I commented that every "what if" scenario could happen anywhere away from the university and we've had over a decade to prove that the "what ifs" just don't happen. I also mentioned that I almost didn't go because I was afraid to walk a mile by myself in the dark and I was worried that my gun might be stolen by a criminal while the forum was being conducted. Overall very positive, civil and VERY pro CHL. On Monday the student senate will vote on a whether or not to send an anti-campus carry recommendation to the state legislature.

Re: Concealed Carry On Campus Forum at TX State
Guys,
I brought up the subject a couple of weeks ago on the night of the A&M scare in my SPED EDUC class at TX State. The whole class, including the professor was in favor of campus carry. I go to the Round Rock campus, which is is conservative Williamson county, but still that is extremely impressive. I was ready, and kinda' looking forward to an opportunity to politely educate some young minds. Yesterday I even met another CHL in the class.

Concealed Carry On Campus Forum at TX State
Guys,
I received this in my Bobcat Mail inbox today. It'll likely have an anti-gun bias, but it'll be cool if a large number of pro-2nds show up. I'm definitely going.
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
The Associated Student Government (ASG) will host the "Concealed Carry On Campus Forum" on Monday, November 22, 2010, in the LBJ Student Center Teaching Theater from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The objective of this forum is to facilitate an honest and productive dialogue about the subject of concealed carry of handguns on college campuses. ASG Senators will be participating and listening, as they will vote on a resolution regarding this subject at a later time. The Texas Legislature will debate a bill regarding this issue during their legislative session this upcoming spring. This is the perfect time to provide input on such an important topic.
