I took my daughter and "son-in-law" out to my club last week. He wanted to shoot his rifle, but doesn't have any ammo for it and I couldn't find any for him either.

If there's anyone with some they're willing to part with in the DFW area I'd like to get him a little for Christmas.
Check SGA ammo. SKU SBST243. 55grn fragmenting polymer tip. They're showing 109 in stock @ 6:49 pm Texas time tonight.
edited to add; also ammoseek.com

SGAmmo is one of my regulars to check for my ammo needs, but I haven't resorted to that for him yet. I'll give them a look. Thanks

EDIT: WOW, $2.25/round. I don't spend that much on my own ammo. He's a great kid, but not that great. I'll keep looking.

Hunting rifle calibers are not as consistent but handgun and 223/556 are like clockwork. You just have to be wiling to stand in line for 45 min to an hour to get a good selection.

I'd call the 2-3 closest stores and ask about 243... to see if thye are getting it regular or even have a little left.
I haven't been calling, but there are two that I pass semi regularly. I check them at least once a week with no luck so far.

After talking with the guys that are gonna take me, they said each one they've taken the past few years has been under 100 yards. I figured I'd go old school with iron sights. I have three rifles I could go with.

1. Garand
2. Enfield
3. Swiss K31

I had forgotten about the K31 and figured I'd go with the Garand, but would take them both out to the range and see which one does better at 100 yards and if I would be good enough at 100 yards myself. Then I remembered the K31. Then I remembered I didn't have any ammo for it after I shot up the only two 20-round boxes I bought when I acquired it 5 years ago. Wow! I thought it was only 2-3 years ago, but just checked. Anyway, I've been looking for ammo for it for a couple months now and finally found some online at Target Sports last night and ordered 100 rounds.

I'd really like the Enfield to be the better rifle with iron sights at 100 yards. It was my Father in Laws and he never hunted with it. However, I'll be happy if I'm good enough with either of the three to be sure I'll do right for the deer if I get my shot.
If what I saw at the Cabela’s here in town is any indication, you shouldn’t have any problem getting 30.06, there was plenty on the shelf.

Good luck in the woods this year :)
I haven't looked for Garand ammo in a while because I don't shoot it that much. I bought one of their 500 round can a few, maybe 5-6 years ago, (good grief time is flying by) and still have at least 200 of that. Another 500 would be nice, but there are so many other things with higher priority right now.

Re: AMMO. Buying, selling or nothing

I might get to go deer hunting this year. It'll be my first time.

I was going to use that DPMS AR-10 I got from TAM a few years back, but the last time I took it apart to clean it after a day at the range I noticed a little piece of whatever missing off the BCG. I haven't ordered a new one yet and everyone is sold out of the ones I like. So, ...
