I did see the movie in the theater, but since it came out on Bluray on Tuesday I also picked it up at Walmart. What caught me by surprise was what the woman at the register said to me. She asked if I'd seen the movie and mentioned that she did and it made her cry. That didn't surprise me. What she said next did. She said she had moved to Texas just weeks before the movie came out in the theaters and had never heard of Chris Kyle before then. I was so shocked I didn't think to ask where she had moved from.

I've seen both. Fury was defintely a highly charged war movie whereas American Sniper was a bit of a mix (like you implied). If your daughter read the book I'd say it will have a deeper impact than if she had not as I choked up pretty hard at the end.

Fury left me in awe whereas American Sniper left me saddened if that helps.
Same for me with Fury and will probably be the same with American Sniper.

It's in a war setting, but it's not really a war movie. I would like to see it this weekend, but the wife isn't sure she can make it through it. My daughter has expressed some interest, but I'm not sure about that yet.
