WOW! I guess they did not use that as a sniper rifle. Wait, isn't that what Vasily Zaytsev used? How did he keep that concealed?

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
Very nice. I also had a slew of messages from a few people. That Mosin would have been REAL nasty without the butt pad. Very thankful it was there!puma guy wrote:While we were having a good time shooting I didn't hear my phone get a message. I just read the message sent by our youngest daughter that her fiance completed his CHL class and scored 245 with a Browning HP I loaned him. He is new to shooting and has only had one outing with me and two or three with our daughter who already has her CHL.

Yeah I left a white bag with a box of 12ga Winshester under the gun rack. That's what happens when you get older than dirt like me.

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
It was a fun day. I didn't shoot as much as I thought I was going to and that is fine. My daughter, H-dub, got to shoot her M&P15-22 rifle and she did well. TBM's two kids also got to shoot it and liked it. I may have cost them a little more money. Oops!
Baldeagle was right, we did have more food than we needed. It was all good, well, all that I could put in. I couldn't try everything.
Skeet with AndyC was very cool. Thank you Andy. That was only the second time I've tried skeet and your advice helped me a little more. The first time was with The Marshal and I don't think I hit but maybe 10 if that many. The first round today was 12. After you guys left I did two more rounds changing my choke from a #2 to a #4 and I think I hit a couple more and might have got 14-15. I changed the choke again to a #5 skeet choke and got somewhere in the 18-20 area and even hit the high one from the #8 spot. I'm ready for you now Marshal!
BTW, did either of you guys that shot skeet today leave a bag at the range under the shotgun rack?
Thank you TBM and RX8 and everyone else that came.

I've seen it too, but it's been a while. Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
I don't think I've ever bought that stuff before. Is that the normal price for that? I think I may have seen some last year for around that price. I was hoping for something closer to the .40-.55/round price. I know, I know. Don't laugh too hard.geekwagun wrote:.223 55 GR FMJ - $0.69/round I have 1000 rounds in bulk, would like to keep some of it just in case i need it.C-dub wrote:Whatchya got?geekwagun wrote:Moby wrote: Does anyone need .223? I'm shutting down and calling it a night. I'll have to look see what I already have tomorrow and let you know. If it's not too much trouble it probably couldn't hurt to bring it with you Saturday. Even if I don't get any, there might be someone else that will that might miss your post.

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
A little of both, but fairly informal. The one we had last year, they are not regularly scheduled events, everyone showed up about the same time within probably 30 minutes or so of each other and we shot for a while. We got a bunch of spaces on the benches in the pistol area and shot what we had. Most brought more than one gun and just left them sitting on the bench for others to shoot. I brought my Henry .44mag and a box of ammo along with my Glocks. I shot my first AR that day and someone's 45-70 and a few .380's. After shooting a while we all went to lunch and then some returned to the range to shoot skeet.JustMe wrote:Could someone explain about this to those of us who haven't been involved before? What is involved? Is there a "program" or plan of events? Or is it just a meet & greet?

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
And the 100 yard area requires a 3x or better scope. The 50 yard area does not require magnification.RX8er wrote:The range closes at 6pm.Gungirl wrote:How late is the range open?
And do I understand correctly that all ammo must be purchased at elm fork and shot at elm fork?
No, you may bring your own ammo. If you want to shoot on the 100 yrd rifle line, you cannot use FMJ. They have ammo at the place to buy if you would like.

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
Had to look up Sriracha sauce. I think I'll just make the pinwheels straight up and let people put the sauce on if they want. I'll wait for the thread, but I guess I'm in for a bunch of pinwheels.

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
The only grill I have is an XL Big Green Egg. It's not very portable, so I won't be bringing a grill. I can bring meat to be grilled if someone will do that for me or I can fix up some other peripheral item. I'm good at making pinwheels, tortillas with cream cheese, a green onion, and ham rolled up and sliced into bite size pieces with salsa for dipping. Otherwise I was just thinking about bringing subway sandwiches for my daughter an me.
BIL seemed interested in coming, but couldn't commit just yet.

Re: DFW get together at Elm Fork 4/6/2013
I'm going to the range with my BIL today. I'll ask him if he would like to come. It would give him a chance to try out some other handguns to see if he really wants to get anything else.

I haven't shot skeet at Elm Fork before. Do we need to bring our own?
