My frame, with LAW-17, was waiting for me at the Post office. I haven't gotten to shoot with it but it appears to work as advertised. The switch is less sensitive than Crimson Trace, which is not a bad thing. The workmanship is not quite up to my expectations. I'm just glad to have it back.
This purchase will always have an asterisk beside it no matter how good the LAW-17 is. A vendor should communicate with their clients. It should not have to take getting LEO involved to get action.
By that way California Consumer Affairs wouldn't get involved. They suggested the BBB.

Could it be?
I finally got back in touch with the Sheriff’s office. He had a tracking number but he hadn’t called me because he didn’t know which carrier. I asked him for the tracking number. The package was delivered to the US Post Office two hours after I left on vacation Saturday morning! Now I’ll have to wait until I get back to see what is in the package. I hope it is my Glock rather than Anthrax.

My local Sheriff's office was able to talk to Steve at SKI today. Steve told them the laser installation was done, the gun was being shipped out today and he would call them back with the tracking number. His explanation was that it was more involved than he originally thought, so it took longer.
I hope he comes through.

Update:
The Sheriff's office hasn't been able to make contact with SKI since the initial contact. They confirmed that I had not heard from SKI or received my gun and asked me for more information. They did not indicate what they will do next. I suspect they will contact the Anaheim police.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I went to the California AG Web site and found they will only help California resiidents. I did find that the consumer affairs division can. I sent the information to them but haven't heard from them yet.Milorider wrote:I've had this sort of thing happen to me before, but it was a custom made holster. It seem to take about a year to get it straightened out. I finally wrote a complaint to that states Attorney General, i had my holster within two weeks after i did that and a very apologetic phone call & letter from the holster company that i was doing business with. You might give it a try, it seem to do the trick for my situation. Hope you get it back soon!
I haven't heard from the USPS Postal Inspectors either.
I just read on GlockTalk that someone else is having the same problem with SKI.

Update:
The BBB got no response (see the letter they sent me below). Meanwhile S.K. Industries has not responded to the Sheriff's request either. The Postal Inspectors received the packet 3/16/2006.

Possible progress
A nice lady at the BATF called me today. The BATF only takes stolen firearms reports from FFL holders but she gave me some suggestions.
My local Sheriff's office was able to talk to Steve Kelley on the phone today. Steve told them he would get my frame back to me and he would call me this afternoon. I am cautiously optimistic.

Thanks, jbenat and Rich.
I sure hope they make it right. I've heard good things about the LAW-17. I will post the results if they do.
A thread like this would have made a difference when I was looking at the LAW-17. Hopefully this thread will remind others to check out unfamiliar vendors thoroughly. I thought I did, but I forgot the BBB.

Update:
I still don't have my frame back. Last week I turned all the information to the US Postal Inspectors. The Postmaster thinks we have a good case.
S.K. Industries did not respond to the BBB, my letter, e-mail or phone calls, so they forced me to take it the next step.
I sent the BATF "Interstate Firearms Shipment Theft/Loss Report" in today.
Next step is the California AG.

I can understand that. I've been lurking around here for quite a while and wanted to give you all a heads up. It's your choice if you want to heed the warning.txinvestigator wrote:I am highly suspicious of people who sign up for a message board and make their first post one of "warning"
You can see my posts on GlockTalk if that adds any credibility.

Never again: send gun to business without checking the BBB
I sent my Glock 36 off to S.K. Industries in Anehiem, Ca for a LAW-17 laser site installation. This was five weeks ago. My check was cashed three weeks ago. Now they have not answered any of my calls or e-mail and their fax machine won't pick up.
