Below is a message I just sent to the governor and my state senator (state rep is a democrat, so I didn't bother.) It's just a very rough idea but I think it could be put in place at minimal cost--which could be easily funded by application fees. The Texas Citizens Militia.
Dear Governor Abbott. The socialist democrats are promising to attack gun rights in Washington D.C. and I think this is a promise they're likely to keep. How about some preemptive action in Texas to protect the U.S. and Texas Constitutions? Here's my rough idea:
The Texas Citizens Militia. ("The Militia"). Stated purpose is to supplement and support the defense of the United States of America and the State of Texas from enemies foreign and domestic. Membership in The Militia requires an application and either a Texas License to Carry or Part 1 of an ATF Form 4473 completed and signed, along with a promise to be available to serve as necessary and acquire sufficient firearms as appropriate for The Militia defense duties.
The application does not require acknowledgement of any current firearms ownership, just that legally acquired firearms will be provided by the member, given sufficient time to make said acquisition. (This avoids anyone having to disclose private information about firearms already owned, if any.)
Obviously more would have to be involved, but the intent of the U.S. Constitution is that the citizens are the Militia and as such are traditionally expected to provide their own weapons. A list with examples of suitable firearms ("including but not limited to") could be part of the application. Ownership of those weapons would be state law and no legal firearms as of January 1, 2021 could be excluded or subsequently confiscated by the federal government, so long as the membership in The Militia was in place.
Thank you.
