Strange. I opened the mailbox today and there it was, the envelope with my CHL card in it. The strange part was that there was no shaft of heavenly light from the sky, and no choir of angelic voices raised in song, which is kind of what I expected.
Oh well, at least the long wait is over now.

Re: February Applications
Whoo hoo! Finally came up "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" today!
Now I can stop obsessively checking the web site each evening, and instead lay in wait for the mailman.
Apparently having to run background checks in both Williamson and Travis counties (work in one, live in other) didn't slow it down too much. Or at least not much more than everyone else's.

Re: February Applications
I know I shouldn't be checking the site every day. But I do. It's like a compulsion. I can't not check. And each time, I see the same thing... "Processing application".
It's almost like a game. They want to see how long it takes before people can't just patiently wait anymore, and start calling them and sending emails, desperate for info. Desperate to be told anything other than, yet again... "Processing application".
I've been good so far. I haven't called or emailed. That would just slow them down even more. That's what I tell myself, anyway. And it is good to come here and see others from the February applications who are actually getting their cards. It gives a bit of hope, just a little. A little hope that some day I'll see something other than... "Processing application".
But to be honest, I'm starting to be a little concerned. No, not that I'll never get my card. I'm sure that will happen, eventually. Probably not this month. Maybe not next month either. But eventually. And then I'll see something other than... "Processing application".
And when that happens, I'm concerned that I'll be so shocked that I'll have a heart attack and keel over dead on the spot.

Re: February Applications
I received my PIN today as well. They must drop them in the mail in batches.

Re: February Applications
I guess I can add my info to the data collection:
02/01/09 - Completed CHL Class
02/02/09 - Packet dropped in mail to DPS (didn't think to send it with delivery confirmation)
02/20/09 - Check deposited by DPS
xx/xx/xx - waiting for PIN
What I find funny is that I sent in my U.S. passport renewal to the State Department a week after I mailed in my CHL application packet, and I got my new passport in the mail yesterday! Three weeks total, from mailbox to mailbox. Although to be fair, it was a renewal, and I guess they didn't have to re-investigate if where I was born had changed since the last time.
