Re: Where can I NOT carry my handgun?
I would say that depends a lot on whose CHL class you attend. The class I attended was far from boring and laid the foundation for a very positive CC experience. I will attend the same class for my renewal. In fact I may take the class again before then just because I think it is that important. I must say that I did not feel overwhelmed at all, and if I had felt that way, I would not have strapped on a CC weapon until I had overcome that feeling. If you are overwhelmed during a CHL class, I'd hate to see how you would feel/react when faced with a life or death situation.Beiruty wrote:As I did, you learn more about 1) and 2) from this forum than any CHL class. The experience to attend the CHL class most likely is overwhelming for many. After few hours you would be fighting boredom and trying not sleep and staying focused. The number 3) that one has to learn in CHL is De-escalation.
This forum is a great tool but can be very confusing for a newbie. Very often incorrect or misleading information is posted on this forum. Granted it is quickly corrected but the correction may be missed by someone new to the forum. I was reading a thread this morning where members that I consider very knowledgeable were giving incorrect information to a new member which very likely would have caused him to have abandoned his pursuit of a CHL. Fortunately Mr. Cotton was able to correct the information and the member now has his CHL. If he had taken the original advice he recieved on this forum and not returned to see Mr. Cotton's post then he would not have a CHL today. The OP would be much better served retaking Mr. Cotton's class than he would taking advice from many of the people on this forum.
IMHO, if you can't glean basic information from Mr. Cotton's class, you are not going to glean basic information from this forum.

Re: Where can I NOT carry my handgun?
Either Mr. Cotton is slipping or you weren't paying attention.
The two things that were hammered into our heads during the CHL class I attended:
1. When you can/can not use deadly force
2. Where you can/can not carry
If you didn't come out of the class with a somewhat comfortable feeling about number 2, then I would be deeply concerned about your understanding of number 1. Please consider retaking the class. Screwing up on number 2 can get your hand slapped and may cause you to lose your CHL. Screwing up on number 1 can change the rest of your life.
I know I sound like a jerk but we are talking about knowledge (or the lack thereof) that can mean the difference between life and death.
