Got that from the Facebook group.Bill Scott wrote:
On this, the six-month anniversary of Erik being gunned down in front of the Summerlin Costco, we launched "THE PERMIT," a serialized, online book of fiction based on actual events (http://thepermit.blogspot.com/).
It's a techno-thriller that depicts a covert Dept. of Homeland Security unit avenging Erik's death, using classified, high-tech means. Those responsible are ALL held accountable....at least in fiction.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
I remember reading on his father's blog that the 2 gun version was false.puma guy wrote:There was some information early on that two weapons were involved. If you listen/read Shai Lierley's running dialog with the 911 dispatcher he stated the gun was in the rear but it was very vague, He stated later Erik was checking it on the right side. I don't think he ever saw the gun himself. Another employee saw it. The info about two weapons could have come from someone privy to the 911 call or maybe there was information dispatched about the original in the rear and then adjusting something on the right. Police scanners would have picked up any dispatched information. I can imagine myself fidgeting and checking to see if my shirt was down if I'd been outed.OldSchool wrote:I didn't remember that. That would be interesting. Was it in one of the stories linked to this thread?baldeagle wrote:I have heard no mention of the second pistol in inquest testimony. What happened to that slant?

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
As much as it sounds like the officer overreacted (and I think he did), be honest with yourselves. If someone you were pointing your gun at reached for, and retrieved, what you could positively identify as a gun... wouldn't you fire too?
The whole thing stinks, but disarming yourself in front of 3 drawn weapons is a horrible idea.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
All of this just reiterates the need to freeze when given multiple, varying commands until the officers figure out what they really want you to do.
Sounds to me like it comes down to the officer being on a hair trigger because he was scared.
The whole thing is still just as disheartening and disgusting to me as when it first happened, if not worse.

I still can't think about this whole fiasco without that emptiness in my gut feeling.

Look on the bright side, how did the State Troopers handle the man shooting on the stairs of the Texas capitol building? Much, much, better.

Keep in mind that this is only one incident... out of thousands of daily carry CHLs all over the nation. Don't let it freak you out any more than someone getting hit by a meteorite or a bolt of lightning. Just learn as much as possible from it, and carry on.
At the same time, it does strike a nerve.

Kinda on topic... we're all human and people of every profession make mistakes. Then some people take responsibility and others try to hide it. Sometimes those people get caught out.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
This is horrible all around. In my CHL class the instructor covered a similar scenario (after a defensive shooting), where 3 officers give 3 very conflicting verbal commands simultaneously. Something like "freeze", "drop it", and "get on the ground". We were taught to just freeze until the officers figured out and agreed upon what they wanted you to do. That makes sense to me, since not moving is further away from making an aggressive movement than moving at all is.
I personally assume that "going berzerk" = victim telling employee they can't legally deny him from carrying in their store.
Would love to see the video of his berzerking. Would also love to see it come down on whoever called it in's head if s/he exaggerated it.
