Plastic in hand today (01-29-09). At least it beat the Super Bowl.

Re: DPS Processing Times
Some thoughts I was having last night about this quest to receive a Texas CHL.
Historical Events that have happened since I applied for my Texas Concealed Handgun License
1. Hurricane Ike hit Galveston and Houston, and much of the area has since recovered
2. Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, and MLK day have come and gone.
3. Baseball season ended, the World Series played.
4. College Football season completed and Bowl Championship game held.
5. Pro Football regular season ended, NFC and AFC championship games complete.
6. Paid my annual property taxes.
7. Celebrated a birthday, my wife’s, birthday and our anniversary.
8. The stock market and worldwide financial markets have crashed
9. Gasoline has gone from $4.00 a gallon to $1.50 a gallon
10. The Iraq surge has been successful, and troops have begun drawing down.
11. The Texas Legislature began its 2009 session
12. A new president has been elected and has taken office
Despite all this “progress,” I still see this message on the DPS CHL website

DATE A COMPLETE APPLICATION RECEIVED BY DPS: August 20, 2008
DATE LICENSE WAS RECEIVED: Still waiting
TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS IN PROCESSING: 100 days and still counting
DID YOU RECEIVE A LETTER FROM DPS REGARDING A DELAY: Yes-Ike letter
DID YOU CAUSE ANY DELAY IN PROCESSING. No
I sent an e-mail to the CHL Bureau and they said that background checks are delayed. I'm not happy. My ability to defend myself and family is being curtailed. Two sensless murders this week in the Houston area. I am hoping that it will shake loose soon.
