Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston

I was working at a Circuit City in college around the time DVD players came out.

Well, one day a fellow came in and was way too enthusiastic about DVD players. He wanted to know EVERYTHING. He was EXCITED. He was ready to learn.

His exuberance amused me, and after I told him all there was to know, he walked away to go to the audio department and I began relaying the humor of the interaction to a coworker. Well, I played it up a little. Mid-impression my buddy quit laughing and just began nodding. I finished and looked to my left, where I saw the eyes of the man I had been mocking peering over the laptop display towards me. He had taken a detour and heard every word.

He confronted me and I stumbled out some lame excuse about not making fun of him. . . just relaying his questions to my coworker to see if I missed anything. He cussed me out for a second and left the store. He didn't swing at me. He didn't get me fired (he probably could have). He just looked hurt and disgusted as he walked out.

I had taken somebody's pure, simple joy and turned it into something ugly.

I can only think of a few times I've felt lower than that. I was about 19 and have to say I learned an important lesson about growing up that day.

I hope at least one of the guys at the store learned the same lesson from your encounter.
