They are considered "destructive devices" by BATFE and require a $200.00 tax to be paid to be transferred.

If the gun is in state then there is no need to use a "Class III" dealer, though many people do. BATFE Form 4, with the tax payment, is filed with fingerprints, a picture and CLEO sign off is required. A trust or corporation does not need the have the fingerprints, pics, or CLEO sign off.

If the gun is coming in from out of state then you will need to have the gun transferred to a Class III dealer. If it is currently with a Class III dealer out of state it will transfer tax exempt (Form 3) to the Class III dealer in Texas. As soon as the in state Class III dealer has possession the Form 4, tax paid, can be filed and then when approved you can take possession of the weapon.

If it is coming from an individual from out of state the first transfer to your dealer will be on a Form 4 and tax paid. This increases the price another $200.00.

From a personal point of view, I don't think there is enough of a "cool factor" to spend that much money for one.
