Re: Best Austin-area CHL class

I can highly recommend Ross and Dottie Bransford's class. I believe they hold all of their range qualifications at the Lone Star Gun Range in Lockhart. When I took the class, the classroom portion was at a hotel near the intersection of 183 & 71 on the southeast end of Austin, and not too far from the range. They had a fingerprint specialist do the prints during the classroom time, and he did a very good job. Ross mentioned that they had some problems with a prior print specialist, but none since switching to this guy, whose name I've forgotten.

I will say that at the cost of a bit of inconvenience to have prints done separately from the class, it may be time to just offload the printing to one of the digital fingerprint services around town. There's one here in Round Rock that I used for my Utah permit, and it is almost foolproof. The digital camera machine has built-in software that determines if the print is of sufficient quality to capture the image. Unlike inked prints, you can't get one wrong and end up having to roll a completely new card. The cost was only $11.
