However had she done a good job raising her son this may not have happened, reading the article I got the feeling that she was not very involved in her sons life. And no "normal childs" do not get into fights everyday, arrested or sent to alternative school. It seems like there is a problem in learning accountability that started with at least the mother.

I agree. Its a shame the way it turned out....but he took a big risk.
