Unfortunately I do have to sale the gun so I listed it for sale.
With that being said I found the perfect item for me to take care of the front strap checking. It is made by Pearce Grip. It is a very thing piece of rubber that goes under the grips and wraps around the front strap. I am not always thrilled with finger grooves, but this is a fantastic fit for me. So I am going to let it go with the pistol (maybe if the buyer thinks he needs it) because I have another gun that might help it. The picture below is with it installed.

Re: 1911 Front Strap Cheese Grater
I hate the Springfield is rough too.
Against my better judgment I am going to put the TRP up for sale and buy another B-Day gun with wife’s permission.

Re: 1911 Front Strap Cheese Grater
I have never seen this before. I have quite a bit of WC parts and firearms. I am sure going to try this first. It is cheap enough it will not hurt if it didn’t work.threoh8 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:43 pm I used one of these to tame some front strap serrations:

Personally, I'm not big on finger grooves.

Re: 1911 Front Strap Cheese Grater
I thank you now. I had looked for these, but couldn’t find anything other than Crimson Trace. I already have a pair ordered now.Sidro wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 4:23 am This will absolutely work for you and not cost as much. These also insure you have the same grip each time therefore helping with accuracy. Try a set you will thank me later. The wife and I have these on each 1911 we own from full size down to officer or defender size pistols.

1911 Front Strap Cheese Grater
My wife bought me a Springfield 1911 TRP for my birthday. God bless her heart she bought me a gun 24 years ago for my birthday and I cherish it. She has allowed me to spend money on guns for special occasions, but has only done this twice now on her own. This one I would never get rid of until forced by homeless or starving.
This year she bought the Springfield 1911 TRP. The man who helped her didn’t pay attention that it is one of their new models. Well not only is this one California compliant with an integral lock, but the front strap will grade cheese and your hand. I have never ever had such an aggressive grip on any gun.
Two fold question. Is it possible to have a competent 1911 gun smith to take down some of the front strap checkering.
Now is it possible to replace the mainspring and delete the integral lock or is it that simple?
Thank you in advance.
Carl
