My father in law gave me a box and he uses them for opossums in his dove pen. He swears by them.

Also, airguns take a different skillset. They are very hold-sensitive, and also ammo-sensitive.
My choice would be a long-barrel (22" - 24") bolt gun shooting .22 shorts or Aquila SSS. Both will make about the same noise as a pellet gun, are more accurate,and deliver a lot more mass to the problem area. My 60-year old Stevens bolt-action will group 1" at 25 yards with SSS all day long.
Still, a good pellet gun and a lot of pellets make for a fun afternoon in the backyard.
Great on targets and cans, not enough for varmints larger than hornets
