Whether it is reasonable or not is subjective and irrelevant (to me). Such views will have predictable outcomes in elections, which is what Mr. Rothstein was talking about.apostate wrote:They play a dangerous game. I can't speak for anyone else, but absent a legislative miracle, they have guaranteed I will not vote for any Republican incumbent, for any office, in 2014.srothstein wrote:On a side note, remember that the party knows it rarely has to cater to its base. After all, they vote for the party anyway, which is why they are called the base. They need to be careful about alienating the base by going too far towards the center, but they need to move more towards center if they want to win elections. Obviously, this is all the public stuff and doesn't mean much about private back room meetings.
If people think that unreasonable, I will take it as a compliment in the spirit of George Bernard Shaw's unreasonable man.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
Here's to hoping:
Governor Perry, the newswires are reporting that no other issues will be added to the special session. This is extremely concerning and upsetting as I had hoped you would add gun rights legislation, e.g., comprehensive campus carry, general reductions in restrictions on Texas CHLs, and prevention of 30.06 notification abuse by government agencies.
These legislative efforts have broad support in both legislative chambers, but have been thwarted by either Senate rules or House leadership. Your leadership is therefore necessary. Please add these gun rights measures to the special session call.

Re: Letter to Governor Rick Perry
OK, so other topics (e.g., transportation) are being added to the special session call. That's good for another fax to the Governor about gun rights.
