I liken it to someone who thinks something, vice says it. For example, someone can be anti-<insert whatever PC issue you please, race, religion etc)> and they can think how much they hate it all they want, and it bothers nobody. But voice those opinions publicly (even if it's your 1A right) and you will probably get some backlash.cb1000rider wrote:It boggles my mind a bit that hidden is OK, but I guess that's "what you don't know"....

Re: Is Open Carry Activism Threatening our CHL rights.
I've always beleived the "In your face" attitude of the extremists do way more harm than good. CA is proof that that tactic does not work. They tried it and lost. Then when they did not learn from that blunder, tried it again with long guns and lost again. Idiots.TacShot wrote:The question in my mind is whether the "IN YOUR FACE" open carry activism is going to accomplish this or is it threatening to narrow my CHL rights.
I disagree. Even in open carry states (and I have lived in a lot of them), you rarely if ever see anyone open carrying and thus has not been much of an issue. But if it's done enough to be noticed, it will probably do more harm than good.Elza wrote:OTOH having the general population exposed to guns on a daily basis will cause most, certainly not all, but a very good percentage I think to become comfortable with them.
And with the youth of today being taught that guns are evil, any sight of them is going to raise a bigger stink than the few folks that might not care.
But for how long? What happens when the signs start sprouting up like weeds?rbwhatever1 wrote:Some folks are afraid it will. It doesn't concern me since there are way too many places I can go. Bridgeport, Decatur, Springtown, we even have a store in Cottondale down the road about 10 miles...
I personally see no advantage to OC when there are much more important issues that people should be advocating (i.e. getting rid of most gun free zones, etc.) IMO OC would eventually erode away many of the gains we have made, because as always it will be the actions of a few (those in your face people) that will ruin it for everyone. There have been people here who have posted that they would intensionally OC where they knew it would cause problems and that they would do it just for that reason.
