Anyone know of a reputable body shop that will put mods on your car in the Houston-area?
I want to put items such as window-louvers, side-scoops, hood-scoop, front-fascia and racing stripes on my car. I want someone honest, professional and hopefully charging a fair price.

Re: TLynn's 50th Birthday Present...a new 5.0!!!!
I got the impression from the media, for what thats worth, that the 5.0 engine had been tuned-to-death prior to release and they had to resort to breathing mods to bring the HPs up to 412. How can dyno-tuning increase it?budroux2w wrote:Oh ok gotcha. This will vary depending on who does the tune and if you get it through a hand held tuner or get a dyno tune. If I were to get the 5.0 I would get a hand held tuner like the SCT or something similar as you can load up different tunes, data log, etc. These are around $375. The tunes will change how your car handles, i.e. air to fuel ratios that are controled by the car's computer.
I'm not sure how much the dyno tunes run, but again that depends on the shop that does it.
PUCKER wrote:What I'm wanting to know is the cost of a tune (as in having a performance car tuner tweak/tune the car) and what exactly that entails?
PUCKER wrote:Help me out here, school me on what a current tune is, say, on one of the new 5.0 cars, what all does it entail, cost, etc.?
A 12.22 is AWESOME!!!!!! I remember breaking into the 12's in 1991 or so with my mildy tweaked '89 GT 5.0, for a street car, that was FAST back then!

Gears and a tune.
Real life track report, with a stock car, regular driver shows the car running 12 second 1/4 mile in mid 90 degree temp.

Forgive me if that is a silly question.

I still can't figure all the SYNC stuff out yet. And I am afraid that it will read out some of my text messages with my EX and our son in the car.TLynnHughes wrote:Mine does not have this feature...but I think it's pretty cool too! My favorite feature (outside of being able to go fast) is all the voice activated SYNC stuff. The darned thing will actually READ your text messages to you.Purplehood wrote:My fav feature is the backup camera in the spoiler. The screen is on the rear-view mirror. I must be getting old because I just think that is plain cool.budroux2w wrote:Standard equipment would be 3.15 gears for an auto and 3.31 for manual with options to go 3.55 or 3.73.
Other than jacking up the car and looking into the gear box... not real sure how to tell, but could probably find out.
I just did a quick search through the local ford dealer's website and it's looking like they are pricing them out at about $30k.... I might have to test drive one this weekend...

How does one find out what gears the car has? I don't recall seeing it on the sticker. I might have overlooked it.TLynnHughes wrote:This particular car already came with 3.73 gears so that part was taken care of. One of the dealers actually showed us this particular video...pretty impressive!budroux2w wrote:Gears and a tune.TLynnHughes wrote:I completely agree! I haven't had the pleasure of making a pass down the local dragstrip. Maybe one day. Definitely thinking about some add ons to the new toy, but can't think of what I want first. It already has most everything that one would "normally" start with.

Re: TLynn's 50th Birthday Present...a new 5.0!!!!
Please recall that I traded in my beloved Challenger SRT8 for the GT 5.0. I still think the Challenger is sweet, I just needed a change.
OTH, I cannot stand the looks of the Camaro. I don't understand how anyone can design such an ugly car.

Re: TLynn's 50th Birthday Present...a new 5.0!!!!
The 5.0 is quick. I am getting more used to it every day. Did I say it is quick? TLynn's post and the video comparing the GT 5.0, SS and the SRT8 pretty much put me over the edge.TLynnHughes wrote:glbedd53 wrote:I saw that too. The Mustang handles better and stops shorter but the Camaro out ran it in every category except they didn't show top end.
Well I'm going to have to head out and pick up the issue then. When you go the Road and Track website, and search for the August 2010 issue, it just brings up the same video that I linked to in the previous post. Kinda frustrating....the magazine that is, not the car. I still prefer the Mustang over the Camaro.

That is for sure. I sold my Charger SRT8 on tuesday outright.TLynnHughes wrote:Holy Cow! You traded in your Challenger SRT8 for it? They're going to make you turn in your MOPAR Lifetime Membership card for that one, I think. But...Purplehood wrote:
Very nimble. Drives like my BMW Z4, so it feels very light and agile. I like the ambient lighting on the dash at night. Not used to the automatic transmission so I notice the lag when I stomp on it. I traded my Challenger SRT8 in for it, which had the Viper manual tranny in it, so I was spoiled with the instant response when gunning it.
I like the sound of the exhaust. Some nice features like the back-up camera that shows up in the rear view mirror make up for the lack of some amenities that were in the Dodge.
Better gas mileage and it doesn't run on premium. Overall I am happy. Might start doing mods to it, I don't know yet.
I don't regret it and understand why you enjoy yours so much.
I think you made the right choice. T.

Nope. I have never seen that one. I will now.williamkevin wrote:You mean this one from MotorTrend.............?Purplehood wrote:Don't get me started. Ever since Road & Track (or was it Car & Driver) did their Pony Car comparison I have been royally teed off.
They compared the following:
Camaro SS
Mustang GT
Challenger R/T
A real comparison would have been:
Camaro SS
Shelby Mustang
Challenger SRT
Nevertheless, the GT is a fine car. If I weren't a Mopar kind-of-guy I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

As you can see...it WAS the SRT 8 they compared it to.
EDIT: I just watched it. Now that was a comparison. It almost made me want the new GT. Almost.

I am a Mopar guy, but I love to look at a nice Pony-car. That sure is purdy.
