Ahh, . . . . , don't wear a burka? "rlol" "rlol" :smilelol5:
Skip the black face mask too..... "rlol"

On a more serious note, one tactic to consider is enlisting the aid of someone who is willing to watch your back and let persons who might misidentify you know that you're a good guy. It's far from perfect, but in chaotic situations imperfect is as good as it gets.

Still, unless you actually work in a mall, the chances of being in the wrong place at the wrong time are incredibly small.

I have not added this to the list of things I worry about.
Not if you think about narrowing the odds to those of reality. When would a terror strike on a mall likely happen? If they have even half a brain it would be on the weekend, when it is busiest. If you have highschool aged children, or or a wife who goes to the mall regularly, or you just happen to go on a weekend, you have now reduced the denominator from 365 days down to 104 days. What are you going to tell your kids? "Sorry, from now on you can only go to the mall monday through thursday? I admit, malls are busy friday nights too but I'm not splitting the odds down to hours.

And as was mentioned before, the odds that anyone anywhere in the US needs to draw their CCW is less than that of a car accident. Yet here we are on a forum with discussion focused around CCW. At least I'm not advocating the backpack carry of a folding rifle. Not that there is anything wrong with that if you feel compelled to do it, to each their own.
The flipside argument to that is - how many malls have been attacked to date by terrorists?
Now divide that number by number of malls in the world.
Keep in mind that statistical risk is theoretical and is always a small fraction.

Victimization is very real and is always either zero or one hundred percent.

That's because there is a series of back hallways behind all the stores where these activities take place.

My instruction to my family for an active shooter situation in a mall is to run to the rear of whatever store they're in, go through the door labeled "employees only," go around, over, or through anyone who tries to stop them, and follow the exit signs into the service corridor and out of the building. .

The same plan works for most other stores and restaurants (where you go through the kitchen), except there is no service corridor.
I think this is exactly right--if a terror group posts-up outside mall entrances they are most likely to do so at the major access points and not the emergency/service entries.

Further, if there ARE BGs posted at the service doors, the back storage areas of any small retail store are more likely IMO to serve as decent hiding places than anywhere else in the mall.
Here's some food for thought....

A bad guy enters the mall through an anchor store, goes through a shop into a back corredor, where he opens a door to the outside and lets his cohorts in with all the guns. They hand him his, and they "magically" appear among the shoppers and begin shooting. Video surveillance actually makes it initially harder for first responders to diagnose what's going on, because there is NO FOOTAGE of armed men entering through the JC Penney's, etc.

My point is, exiting through the back hallways and doors is a good strategy, but DON'T take it for granted that there will be no hostile surprises along the way.
I remember hearing one of the movie mass murderers come in through the out door. Was that confirmed?
Yes. Aurora, CO.

In contrast to crazy shooter scenario, I'd proffer the best solution is absolutely not to find somewhere safe and sit tight, but instead get out of there through the nearest anchor store in the mall.
For a Mills-style (one level) mall the best escape would be out-the-back of whatever shop you might be in. But I don't know about places like Barton Creek Square with its multiple levels (and some internal shops). Are there other escape routes than thru the main hallways to "anchor stores"?

Flooding "anchor stores" to their exits sounds to me like a theater/church/don't-yell-fire-there scenario.

Playing the odds is nothing more than applying the "other guy syndrome" to a different subject. Statistics don't mean anything when you are the one hit by lightening, robbed at gunpoint, or miss the lottery by one number.

Chas.
Here's another way of looking at this:

Statistical risk is theoretical and fractional.

Victimization is real and is always either zero or one hundred percent.

No one is ever 3% robbed or 7% killed.

I already told the wife: no mall trips without me, and it's not easy or fun to try to get me to go to a mall.
