Re: May Applications

This is great news. It good to start hearing more frequent reports of 70-80 day application times.

I'm not sure why you are checking the site. I had my plastic in hand and the site still said "Processing Application". It only changed to "Application Complete" one date after I had physically received my license. Checking that status site will only make you more frustrated. It is not accurate. Your best best is to call in for most up to date status. Remember, be polite. The people at DPS aren't purposely trying to hijack your application. If the person answering the phone can't provide you with the information, politely ask to speak with a manager. I find that they will be more willing to help you if you aren't attacking/insulting/being aggressive to them.

Re: May Applications

Plastic in hand !!! Arrived this morning.

Timeline
Took Class on May 10
Submitted Online Application on May 11th
Received Online Packet from Austin on May 15th
Paperwork Received by Austin May 20th
License sent to imaging July 19th
Application Complete August 1st
Plastic Received August 7
79 days total

For those of you still waiting, this is the seemingly innocuous envelope containing that 2" x 4" piece of plastic goodnes, that you will receive.

Re: May Applications

I was told that mine was sent to imaging on July 19th, and verbally told on the phone last Saturday that everything was done and just needed to be mailed out. I was told I should get it this week, however the status page still says "Processing Application" so at this point I don't know what to think.

blacksheepmarty wrote:Yesterday I hit the 70 day mark since they received my paperwork in Austin, so I called to ask if there were any problems with my application. I was told that my application looked good, no problems, and that it was sent to imaging on 7-23. I should have asked more questions, but I didn't. I assume that imaging means that they are acutally making the card, and I would also assume that they would not do that unless everything else came back ok. Does anyone know if I am off base on my assumptions?
Interesting. I got the same line.... license looked good, no problems, that it had already been sent to imaging, and to wait 2 more weeks. Do you happen to know who you talked to? They recieved my application on May 20th, and they said my license had gone to imaging on July 19th. Just after he said "July 19th", I heard someone else in the background on the phone say "July 19th" to whom I assume was someone else calling in. I don't know if what they are telling me is true, or if it is something they are making up to make people think their license is close to getting done.

To my knowledge, they go ahead and send your license to be imaged before all of the background checks get in so that they can have it ready to mail out asap if checks come back with nothing negative.

5/14/2008 Packet Received by DPS
6/14/2008 PIN Issued - Processing Application
7/23/2008 Application Completed - License Issued or Certificate Active :cheers2:

Now I'm just waiting for my plastic.

NICE!
by my calculations that is right at 70 days. Did you do anything special, notify your state rep, whatever, that might have helped you? When I talked with Mathew he said they were still working on applicants from mid-April.

Anyway, congratulations on your plastic. I'm a week off from your timeline so I hoping that my timeline is close to yours.

Re: May Applications

Okay, so I called back, to try and talk to someone else, and see if they fed me the same story. This time I talked with Steve. Steve told me that everything looks good so far, but they were still waiting on some of the other checks (taxes, student loads, child support, etc). He wouldn't give me an ETA on when he thought I would get my info.

So there you go, two different stories in less than 10 minutes time from DPS. Mathew indicated that they are pretty much done, with all of the checks but just hadn't got to me yet. Steve indicated that they are still working on my application and that it is still a ways off. Not sure which one to believe at this point.

Re: May Applications

So rking581's post inspired me to call in and check status at DPS. I talked with Mathew and he said my checks loooked good. I asked him if that means both FBI and County checks were received and he said yes. He looked and said that my license had been imaged on July 19th, but they are still "processing" the application. He said give them two 2 weeks.

Initially I was thinking he was feednig me a load of crap, and then I see uurys post that his license is already done so maybe he was telling the truth.

I called DPS yesterday (7/21) and was told that my FBI background check was back and was just waiting on TX's background check to come back. I was told that I am halfway done after 63 days.

Interesting. You are one day ahead of me (my packet was recieved on 5/20). That might be enough information to get me to call them and check status as I just hit the 62 day mark myself.

Utah's clock starts from when they clear the funds (which for me happened last week). From what I've read, Utah is pretty good about getting their licenses out 60 days from when they clear the funds. Even thought I submitted my paperwork to Texas about 6 weeks before I submitted my application to Utah, I'm curious to see who will get me my license first. Anybody willing to put $20 on Texas "rlol"

Re: May Applications

I'm at 50 days even and Aaaaalllllssss Weeelllll.

I have nothing new to report, other than to say that I took my Utah course this last weekend and they should receive today or tomorrow based on USPS site. Texas has approximately 1 1/2 months on Utah. We'll see who finishes first.

Re: May Applications

Well, I doubt they are still working on just March applicants. I've read plenty of April applicants (just read about 2 that got their license today that sent their applications in April (one late April)) who have now got their plastic. I suspect that they are finishing up March applications and well into April applications by now.

Re: May Applications

When you do an online application, Austin will mail you a packet with forms prepopulated with all of your information you type in. Hence, you application is in the "Packet mailed to Applicant" stage. Now, if you've already mailed them the packet back containing your prints and pictures, with TR-100, you should go into the "Processing Application" phase. My guess is that they haven't opened your packet yet to get you into the processing application phase.

However, I also did the online route, and I was in the "Processing Application" phase within 3 weeks, so not sure what is going on. Personally, I wouldn't read too much into that status page. People have reported that they got their plastic, and either didn't get a PIN number, or didn't ever get beyond the "Processing Application" state. I wouldn't worry about it right now. If it hasn't changed by the 90 day mark, I would definately start calling. My guess is that they have your packet, but haven't started processing it, which is typical. Most accounts I have read said that applications will set easily for a month before being opened.

Re: May Applications

I've always used the main number (800) 224-5744. I've called in twice for application questions, and have always gotten a person in 5-10 minutes. Yes, they are busy trying to process applications, and talk to people on the phone, so don't expect to get someone in 30 seconds. But, you will get someone if you wait long enough.

But I will prepare you that you are most likely going to get a generic answer, so don't be expecting much.
