Here is the answer to my latest e-mail to DPS, using the borrowed letter above posted by mr.72.

Mr. Johnston,

Thank you for the chance to clarify what exactly is happening with your
application.
Your application was received on 4/8. We began the initial processing
of your application shortly after it was received. Your file was
started, reviewed for errors and omissions; we also started working on
the production of your physical license, and part of the background
investigation was started. Your application was fully entered into the
system on 7/19. This is when we were able to start the other part of
the background investigation. We are still waiting for the background
investigation to finish.
While your application has been processing, we have introduced numerous
procedural changes to have applications processed more quickly. You
noted a result of these changes when you commented that some applicant's
are receiving their licenses within sixty days.
The background investigation that we are waiting on is completed by a
third party and is unique to each person who is applying. Some
background investigations take longer than others; this is not the
result of anything negative in the history, but largely because everyone
is unique and some take longer.
Please be assured that we are working to process your application as
quickly as possible and that we are simply waiting for these background
investigations to be returned to us.

Texas Department of Public Safety

I got a email from the Gov's office yesterday. They are looking into it also.

Re: May Applications

mr.72 wrote:I am not resorting to daily prodding via email.

here was today's email:

Hello,

I am writing again to check on the status of my application:

It is over 90 days now and I have reliable reports of many people who filed after the beginning of June whose licenses have already been issued, and a number who even filed as late as July who already have the license issued.

If there is nothing that is slowing down the progress of my application then why is it that those who filed over a month later are already receiving their license?

Please forward detailed information on the progress of my application.

The last correspondence said it was awaiting "background checks". Is there any more specific information? Is this the FBI background check? The county I live in? What is the normal time that these checks are completed, and how long has it been since mine were begun? What is the process once these checks are complete? Is there no way to prompt or accelerate the completion of these checks? I have absolutely no criminal history of any kind.

Regards,

Can I use that??? I just hit 140 days and am still in the "processing application" black hole.

mr.72 wrote:BTW when I informed "Steve" that I have reliable reports of people who submitted their application at least one week after me having already received their licenses, he responded with great incredulity with "Oh, I DOUBT that!"

I thought that was funny.
I got the same answer from " Will" when I called last week. He said that they must be renewals.. :smilelol5:
