I know its not secret info but strangers dont need to know where I live to steal their money or gun back. Plus if they lose it out in the open then my info is out there for theft as well. I will be more than happy to let you see it but you dont need to study my dl or chl for 2 minutes or so. Granted you see my address when i prove residency via DL but chances are you will forget it later. Members of this board rail about all the limitations the govt tries to stick us with to pursue our rkba but then hypocritically impose their own. I do profile my buyers and have walked away from deals but dont impose such stringent restrictions as mandatory chl. What exactly do you need an ironclad paper trail for? If you sold it then you sold it, a simple bill of sale or even a note in a book should suffice. If you want you can always get their license plates and you probably have their cell and email address as well. I do keep all that in my personal logs when buying or selling.

Of course, fires and floods happen in some cases.

NICS query records are not supposed to be retained, but when John Ashcroft became U.S. Attorney General in 2001, he said that the previous administration had been keeping them. Supposedly the current administration is obeying the law.

In some states, all firearms transactions are recorded by a state agency, or sometimes just handguns. Texas does not have those issues.

Hmmmm.....note to self. Only purchase firearms from private party sellers. Thanks for the info.

Original owner = me

For some reason I thought the paperwork for a firearm transaction was disposed of after a certain amount of time and that the instant check system didn't record transactions. I didn't know there was a way they could track a firearm back to the orginal owner after a certain amount of time.

I am curious about one post on this thread. The poster mentioned that a gun he sold someone turned up in some kind of drug raid or something. How and why did they trace the gun back two or more owners to you?
