YepScottDLS wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 2:22 pmI like the news topics that are posted in "off topic" if not directly gun related. I don't do FakeBook or Twaddler anymore, so I enjoy engaging on Forums like this with people who share a common interest in Texas CHL/LTC and Gun Related Topics. Wehn there is an off topic section in a forum, I like to check it out, because there tends to be a lot of thoughtful discussion with members who are already familiar from their gun topic posts. This kind of forum is what "social media" is supposed to be about...an affinity group for people who share interests in common.anygunanywhere wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:41 pm So if news about what is going on in our deteriorating society isn't posted by a few members, then there will be even less reason to visit the forum.

Re: I think the forum is dying
Yep. I will also note that the ones complaining of this, could always begin posting their own starter threads related to weapons, gun or otherwise. The news stories I have seen are always weapons related in one form or the other. One can only have so many discussions over a 30.06 sign before it has been beat to death.anygunanywhere wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:41 pm So if news about what is going on in our deteriorating society isn't posted by a few members, then there will be even less reason to visit the forum.

Re: I think the forum is dying
I did not realize the forum was not getting new members until the post above and a couple others in this thread. It is either happening due to a loss of interest in obtaining an LTC or like mentioned, something in the process is not working well.

Re: I think the forum is dying
Just about all of those news stories have to do with crime/shooting/self defense news situations. I don't think there is any forum where everything posted lights my fire. You could unsubscribe from the off topic forum and maybe start a topic or two about things you would like to discuss. You would likely find many others wanting to discuss those things. Just a friendly suggestion.74novaman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 8:21 amSo pick your own news site to compare it to if Drudge was a bad example.
Almost half the topics on page one in this off topic subforum are topics posted by one guy. They're all 24/7 cable news style topics. If I wanted that, I'd be on a news website.
I come to read about gun/Texas chl stuff, but all the recent activity is always that one guy posting random news he finds online.

Re: I think the forum is dying
Those discussions are from 5 years ago. Other than that, I do agree with your first paragraph. It is my story anyway. When I first joined having a CHL was fairly new and still somewhat of a novelty. Info on it was not easy to find. Now, many years later, it is somewhat diluted by constitutional carry and the novelty ended for me many years ago.Ruark wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:37 pm I think the general topic of the forum has been somewhat diluted by events of the past few years. At first, we couldn't carry concealed weapons at all, and there was the big push to create a "Concealed Handgun License" law, which Bush Jr. finally did. So a CHL was a big, novel, new deal, and it was a ripe situation for a Texas CHL forum. Later we got open carry passed, which was a big hullabaloo that amounted to nothing, and a CHL was then called an LTC.
We coasted along for awhile, and eventually just about everything that could be said about a CHL (LTC) had been said. Then we passed constitutional carry, after which we don't even NEED a license to carry. So the very basis for the existence of the forum has pretty much dissolved.
On some other sites, like Texas Gun Forum, our forum, and Charles in particular, is HEAVILY flamed as being too restrictive and censored. Of course, that's bull, Charles is a great guy and we all know it. One accusation is that if you say ANYTHING negative about the NRA on here, you'll be kicked off and banned. Re: I think the forum is dying
Maybe some folks have done like me and sold all their guns and ammo in private party sells. Not having any guns or ammo takes away from my interest in firearms.
