Good grief. I may die of old age before they finish my application!
HOLY SMOKES! I WOULD BE CONTACTING EVERYONE! REPRESENTATIVES, DPS PERSONNEL, EVERYONE!!!!!
Joe Driver's office would be one I would contact, as well as the governor's office. He's the head of the Law Enforcement committee and DPS is within his purview. I was in the middle of writing to his office (he's actually my representative and I do vote for him) this morning when I found my application had been finally been approved (after a 90 day wait).

I'm still writing him as I believe the system is broken and in need of work.
I'd say the system is getting fixed now, as the wait for Jan-May applicants was on the order of of 120-150 days, including renewals, (mine was 161 but a couple weeks were my own fault). It now seems to be getting down to 90 days or so with reports of less. As you can see by my sig, the status site sat on "Application mailed" for longer than it took your application to get approved.

Browse the April and May groups. The powers that be have been bombarded with mail. Read Charles' posting on the subject. There are people working to fix the system.

(opps, you are browsing the April. Got to start being more aware of my surroundings I guess.)

I thought I'd be the last one out of here at 161 days (received it Friday).

Re: April Applications

Shhhhhh! Don't tell DPS but mine went to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" today. If they realize it they'll probably change it back!

157 days so far.

Hopefully I'm the last April out the door.

You're in your car, you're covered by the law. To me, it's a toss up whether I'd inform the officer that I understand my CHL has been issured but I haven't received it yet, or wait until it pops up on his screen and askes about it. I lean towards the former.

Re: April Applications

I'm still here, although part of it is my own stupid fault, not signing the fingerprint cards. Thing is, it's been almost three weeks since they got them back and the "you did something stupid" message is still on my status page. I emailed them about it and the reply was "check back in a few weeks". After my heart started back up I emailed back "do you mean the status page takes that long to update, or my prints will be sitting around for that long?" The response was the status page. More data that the status page is worthless.

I know from experience in the military that there is a computer system used for basic backround checks that runs your name/ssn with the federal and state agencies. Checking this system takes just a matter of minutes and reports any convictions or problems on your record. It sounds to like the state has tried to recreate the wheel on the CHL and is using some homegrown contraption that takes weeks to do the same funtion.
Problem is, as has been stated before, that these aren't the only background checks made. As BigBlueDodge said, they send requests to each county you've listed on the app. They send requests to different follks to see if you're in default on student loans, taxes, child support or "other govermental fees". None of these systems are integrated.

And doing a NCIC check is not the same as doing a fingerprint brackground check.
