Apparently it was a DoS attack.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I looked for an extension that would let me move either or both the "New Posts" and "Active Topics" buttons to the menu as they were in Subsilver, but there's nothing available. I didn't look at the developer's board because I don't want to make any code hacks that make updating more difficult.Maxwell wrote:Hi Charles,
One minor complaint with the new board software. I liked to browse the "active topics" list in the previous version and now it is much more cumbersome.
Like I said, minor, but still an inconvenience.
Max
I'm sure we're not the only two people wanting that feature, so hopefully someone will create an extension.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I prefer it (Subsilver) too, but it isn't available. I loaded a version of it that is supposed to be almost the same, but it was horrible! Very poor quality rendering and at least some of the new features didn't work.Russell wrote:Just to be a demanding user: If it's an option to get the "old style" phpBB template back that'd be swell. I prefer that layout to this new one and had that set as my default. :)

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I installed the other style that was available with the older software, but it was terrible! It rendered very poorly and at least some of the extensions I added did not work with it. Oh well, . . .

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I've added an extension that should allow Members to change the setting in their User Control Panel to allow full width display on whatever device they are using.WildBill wrote:The page looks different. It only fills about half of the screen, it is centered in the middle.
The User Control Panel is under your name in the upper right of the screen. From there, select "Board preferences," then select "Edit display options." Scroll to the bottom of the page and set "Use maximum width" to "yes."
I don't know if this will address the desktop v. mobile version or not.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
Sorry, but I don't know what you are asking. I believe this is a responsive template like the newer Joomla/Rockettheme templates.Aggie_engr wrote:Charles,
Is it possible for us mobilers to have an option to view the desktop site? I know the mobile version is convenient for most people but I always seek out the desktop version when available on mobile sites.
Thanks!

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
I installed an extension that is supposed to do what you ask, but it doesn't work. I'll keep looking.baldeagle wrote:As long as you're still doing work, if there's an extension that makes the Quick Links dropdown on mouseover, that would be greatly appreciated. I suspect that was done for mobile devices, since they can't mouseover things, but media queries can make the site work differently for different screen sizes.Charles L. Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
Andy, I've added the extension to force all links to open in a new tab.AndyC wrote:Thank you for the effort - it's really appreciated.
One possible suggestion: I noticed that clicking a link now takes one away from the forum completely and to that other website, instead of just opening another tab automatically for that linked website. Could this be changed?

I'll check to see if that's an admin setting and, if so, I'll change it.AndyC wrote:Thank you for the effort - it's really appreciated.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
There's only one style with the new software and it may be different than the one you previously used. If so, then look in the upper left side of the monitor and you'll see "Quick links." You'll find all of the options that were in different places with the other style. I tested them and they are all working.oohrah wrote:What happened to the "View Unread Posts", and "View New Posts"? my faves.
A bit of trivia - it took about 10 hours to index the entire Forum! I had no idea it would take that long. Had I known, I would have planned for the Forum to be down for a full 24 hours. The indexing should have been part of the upgrade process, but something went wrong. For you server folks, I was surprised that there is no command line tool to index phpBB! My web host could have done the indexing in a fraction of the time had there been one.
Oh well, it's done.

Re: The Forum will be down for a software upgrade/migration
The Board is being reindexed, but with almost 1 million posts, this is going to take about 4 hours.
