I like Celtic Woman, I like big productions, and this song combines the two in grand style! It sounds much better on a good sound system. There are two drummers in this production and both are working as hard as Taiko drummers.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
In all likelihood, I'm only days away from losing a woman who has been like a second mother to me for 57 years. As I get older, the wisdom embodied in the lyrics of this song becomes ever clearer.

Roy Hamilton had a great, powerful voice and equally great range. It's sad he died so young. He was only 40 when he died in 1969 from a cerebral hemorrhage; the same thing that killed my mom at age 48 just over a year earlier. Here is a link to several of his songs: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... y+Hamilton

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
I want this played at my funeral! And I want to be buried with a brace of .45's.
No one involved in the creation of this masterpiece could have had a clue how popular it would become almost immediately and remain so for decades.

I first heard the chorus as a kid, but I never head the whole song until it was posted on Facebook.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
Even at the ripe old age of 8 years, I thought this was one of the prettiest songs I had ever heard. For many years, I thought it was sung by Nat King Cole, but was actually Earl Grant. I hadn't thought of this song for for 50 years. Then I heard it yesterday on satellite radio.

What a powerful song for believers who have lost loved ones who are also believers.

I've heard this hymn song by dozens of people and choirs. This is one of the best!

I always liked this song, and a girl who said it was her favorite, but that's not for publication.
It's amazing that a garage band mastered harmony so well. This scene is from a movie shot in Florida not far from the band's location, if I recall correctly. That's another unique aspect to Mercy, i.e. a garage band being asked to sing in a movie, even a B movie. I tried to confirm or refute the statements made in the quote below and it does appear that "Love Can Make You Happy" hit three different charts many years apart. Obviously, everything clicked in this song for this one hit wonder band. Too bad they didn't do much more.

What a beautiful song, and the greatest One Hit Wonder ! This song sold millions, and hit number 2 in 1969, James Marvell ( from Mercy ) and The Cavaliers do a country version of " Love Can Make You Happy " in 1981 that goes to number 1 on the country charts, believe it or not James Marvell does yet another Christian version of " Love Can Make You Happy " in 2008 that goes to number 1 on the Christian charts, making this the only One Hit Wonder to hit the charts 3 times.

I haven't thought of this song in years! Rio Bravo and El Dorado had the same themes and they are two of my top ten favorite movies.WildBill wrote:Rio Bravo is one of my favorite westerns. This song and video is from the movie.

That a piece of music written in 1829 to glorify a legendary figure of the founding of the Swiss Confederacy in the 14th century
became a staple in American households for decades, has always amazed me.
The opera "William Tell" was viewed as subversive at it's production, even though 400 years had elapsed since the original events depicted.
Both the Austrian and Spanish lines of the Hapsburgs were still very much in power and would remain so until WW1.
The American and French Revolutions were only a few decades in the past and Monarchist all over Europe bloodily opposed performances.
The Overture was written in 4 parts and what became the "Lone Ranger" theme was the finale "March of the Swiss Soldiers".
The Swiss fielded what was in essence the first "Citizen Soldier" based army since the collapse of the Greek polis.
No feudal levies, mercenaries or conscripts. Swiss pike blocks became the equivalent of the Greek Phalanx,
shock infantry that became as legendary as Tell.

My Wife reminds me that my oldest son had his first "wound" stitched up after he blew a spring out on his "Lightning the Wonder Horse" while riding to
the rescue, accompanied by a looped tape of the finale I had made for him.
