If you look at my first post you might pickup on the fact that the GOA was used as an EXAMPLE not a RECOMMENDATION. As far as their value as a gun rights organization goes I haven’t got a clue—although many of you DO NOT LIKE them.

I have stated in earlier RE’s that I am a NRA member and spend a good portion of time on their web site. I also make known my feelings about some of their decisions good and bad.

Mike1951 mentions Mr. Cotton served as Executive Director of the TSRA, so why aren’t their logo on the site.

Look, the question simple to answer I would think. It was a question of CURIOSITY NOTHING MORE. This is your site and you are welcomed to run it as you wish. And, if the answer to my question is “I only want NRA logos on this site” or “I can’t find another site I would recommend” then say so. But, please don’t drag me through the mud about the GOA which was used as a EXAMPLE.
If you were merely using GOA as an example, then I misunderstood the thrust of your post and I apologize for ganging up on you about GOA. (Now this is a record, I've had to apologize twice in one thread!)

I don't include logos of other organizations primarily because of space, but also because I don't want to have to select some for "publication" and reject others. I would surely offend people by doing so as rejecting a request would be perceived and a denouncement of that person's preferred organization. There are a few good gun organizations, but other than the NRA, most have a relatively narrow focus (hunting, competition, collecting, etc.) and none have the same impact on elections and legislation as does the NRA.

For years, the only logo on TexasCHLforum was the NRA, then I added the TSRA logo during the one year I was Executive Director. I did so only because I thought I was pretty much obliged to do so because of my status with the organization. For 25 years I served as pro bono (free) legislative counsel for TSRA and served on the TSRA Legislative Committee for about 8 or 10 years. In spite of being on the TSRA Legislative Committee and serving as Vice-Chairman, I still didn't include the TSRA logo and I obviously didn't have anything against TSRA.

I hope this answers your question. Obviously, even if I posted the logos of other gun organizations, I would not post GOA or NGRA for the reasons I previously listed.

Just a guess, but the owner of this board is/was on the Board of Directors of the NRA and TSRA. He might have a bias.
I'm on the NRA Board of Directors, but I've never been on the TSRA Board. What you refer to as bias I call 30 years legislative experience and knowing who is effective and who isn't.

Chas.
I meant it from a purely positive perspective. Please don't take it as a slight.
Sorry, my fault; I misunderstood.

GrayGuy wrote:My question had nothing to do with the gun rights groups infighting. As I see it if these groups are fighting for gun rights—then that’s okay by me. I have a choice as to which group to join/back.

As to your comment about the NRA not having an ulterior motive for backing the Disclosure Act it seems the Wall Street Journal has another take on it:
http://online.wsj.com/article/NA_WSJ_PU ... 18678.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I being a NRA member did send my displeasure to the NRA.
Your question is why I don't have a GOA logo on the forum and I answered the question.

Again, the NRA did not and does not back the Disclosure Act and the WSJ article is wrong. It's likely that Ms. Strassel got her inaccurate information from the rantings by GOA and the newly formed NGRA. There is a thread that gives the details about the NRA's lack of involvement in the Disclose Act, if you are interested. The bottom line is the NRA had nothing to do with any deal and it never backed the bill. Other organizations impacted by the proposed legislation are simply mad because the NRA doesn't attack the bill even though it doesn't apply to the NRA. That's not the way politics works and they should know it.

Because GOA has a rich history of publishing false allegations against the NRA and playing fast and loose with the facts. For example, GOA falsely claimed the NRA negotiated a deal to get itself exempted from the Disclose Act, then went on to blast the NRA for selling out. There are problems with this lie, not the least of which is the fact that the NRA didn't negotiate anything, pro-gun Democrats in the House did it on their own.

Another reason you'll never see a GOA logo here is that GOA has never accomplished anything; not one single thing. It never passed a pro-gun bill, it never blocked an anti-gun bill, and when anti-gunners complain about political influence it's always about the NRA -- GOA is never mentioned. GOA exists for one reason, to blast the NRA and generate donations doing so.
