Well, I decided to try my luck at getting a straight answer re concealed carry.
My email to Carole
Good morning Carole. Please give me your position in regard to the citizen"s right to carry a concealed handgun. Do you support the Texas Concealed Handgun law?
Thank you.
Kyle Brown
Texas Concealed Handgun License Instructor
Brad's response was prompt and reads as follows:
Kyle,
Thank you for contacting us. We also thank you for all you do for Texas as a handgun instructor. We need more good people like you to get involved. Carole Keeton Strayhorn agrees wholeheartedly with your position. I am Carole Keeton Strayhorn's campaign manager and one of her sons (my younger brother is President Bush's Press Secretary, Scott McClellan). Carole is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and gun rights, and believes in negotiating from a position of strength not weakness, which means that Texans have a right to carry and that right must be protected. Her husband Ed Strayhorn is avid hunter and a long-time NRA Member and TSRA Member. Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is running for governor to bring leadership back to the Office of the Governor and to put a priority back on our most precious resource our children whose education, health, and safety is of utmost concern which is why people like you are so valuable to our State. Carole has five grandchildren, and the oldest two (my children) are both active in the Girl Scouts and many other activities. Please visit Carole’s website at http://www.carolestrayhorn.com , which will be updated in the coming weeks (please feel free to forward this info to others who are interested), which has her complete announcement speech which lays out some of her basic positions. Education is her top priority. And to quote from her speech:
I want my legacy to be that with every breath of air in Carole Keeton Strayhorn’s lungs, she fought passionately for education, paychecks and jobs, and protecting our most precious resource our children.
Carole wants to drive more of every education dollar directly into the classroom with the students and the teachers where it belongs.
On eminent domain, Carole Keeton Strayhorn opposes eminent domain for economic development. Five days before the Kelo decision, the current governor signed legislation allowing the goverrment to take land for economic development. Comptroller Strayhorn opposes this. Carole Keeton Strayhorn is extremely concerned about protecting private property rights and opposed to the toll roads and the Governor’s Trans Texas “Catastrophe and the Governor’s secret deal with Cintra. Carole Keeton Strayhorn is against the secret Trans Texas “Catastrophe. The website, http://www.carolestrayhorn.com , shows her announcement and to quote from Carole’s announcement speech and her heart on property rights:
And you know that Texas property belongs to Texans, not foreign companies.
We will not sit quietly by and let this Governor embark on the most historic land grab in history and cram toll roads down our throats.
This is not the Texas way, and it cannot continue.
Texas is great, but we can do better.
We look forward to your continued questions, input, and welcome your good advice on this issue or any other, and my direct email is brad@carolestrayhorn.com . Please encourage your family and friends to join our team at http://www.carolestrayhorn.com . We would certainly welcome your support and vote on March 7, 2006, in the Republican Primary.
Thanks for your time,
Brad
That's a fairly strong written statement. It would be interesting to see how she would respond to such a question in a live public debate.
