I don't deny that most CHL holders, myself included, can't be caught by surprise. After all, despite our best efforts to live in condition orange, I'm willing to bet that none of us lives there all the time. I consider myself a fairly aware person, and I have to remind myself to keep paying attention. But, I don't spend my life at U-shaped desks in lecture halls with only one entrance/exit. That room was a set up trap, and as others have pointed out, the "bad guy" had foreknowledge of who the shooters were and where they were sitting.

Moreover, this was specifically a setup intended to divert the desire of a young and somewhat deluded young man to obtain a carry license and then actually carry a weapon. The assumption that airsoft qualifies as firearms "training" when the subject has no firearms experience is vapid. Yes, it can be a valid training tool in specific situations, but one assumes firearms familiarity to begin with. Airsoft experience, in and of itself, is not a substitute for firearms experience.
