Meh, I don't really care about Bowie knives, but I agree about OC. If it were legal, I would probably still conceal. I just wouldn't worry about accidental exposure of my weapon, or taking my coat of before getting in the car... ...stuff like that.74novaman wrote:I'm far more bothered Texans can't carry Bowie knives than OC...that one always gets me.
Even if we had OC, I for one would never bother. I like concealed carry.

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
OK, I was confused. I actually understand your question now. I don't know enough about Texas history to answer with any kind of detail, but it does beg the question because now you've got me curious... Has Kentucky always had open carry from day one, or is open carry in Kentucky something which became legal at some point in the state's history? If the latter, then how did it first become illegal there? The reason I ask is that if it was ever illegal in Kentucky, it would have been for similar reasons as to how it became illegal here in Texas. Hoplophobia knows no state boundaries.cwohardy wrote:AGAIN. MY QUESTION IS does anyone have a historical perspective on why Texas does not allow OC?

You left out "repeatedly."mr surveyor wrote:I would bet that concealed carry license holders in Texas have a lot more freedom of where they can carry than those in Kentucky. Maybe that would be a good place to start the discussion, rather than an abraisive issue that's been beat to death, over and over, redundantly, again and again........
but that's just my opinion

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
That is still a relative matter. Compared to Arizona or Vermont, where no license is required even for concealed carry, Kentucky has restrictive gun laws, because Kentucky requires a permit to carry concealed. Do you see what I mean? So you're beating up on Texas, but you home state's laws are not ideal compared to Arizona or Vermont.cwohardy wrote:I am from KENTUCKY so yes the Texas laws are quite restrctive
And coming from the other direction, like I said, compared to California, Texas is gun paradise. Again, it is not black and white.

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
It would help to know where you moved from, because I came here from California; and by California standards, Texas' gun laws are very libertarian. No, we don't have OC here, but we do have a more pro-gun environment than many other states, so things are not all black and white. You make it sound we are very restrictive. We actually are not, compared to a lot of other states. It is really more a matter of degree. Ask anyone from New York State, or Washington, DC if they think Texas' gun laws are restrictive.
