Re: Gun stores Austin area?
Advanced Armorment - The Cutting Edge in Round Rock is a tiny shop . . . a friend of mine says he's done "a lot" of Internet transfers for him at a reasonable price.

Re: Gun stores Austin area?
Just what I said - I've heard that sometimes they'll sell a firearm to someone who has a CHL, and sometimes they won't, citing "we sell to police only." Perhaps the mood of the saleman? (Caveat: this is anecdotal, I haven't personally tried to purchase a firearm there . . . but I've heard this from a couple of people.)What do you mean by "sometimes they'll deal with a CHL holder, sometimes they won't"?

Re: Gun stores Austin area?
They just opened. NO pistols, only ordinary "hunting" rifles and shotguns. Prices aren't very good, and their grand opening case-lot prices on ammo are no better than regular box prices at WalMart. The optics they sell are mostly low-grade stuff. Their coupons explicitly EXCLUDE firearms and ammunition. Much more interesting to browse at Sportsman's Finest, which is only a few minutes away.O6nop wrote:I got an add that says there is a new Dick's Sporting Goods in Bee Caves, west of Austin.

Re: Gun stores Austin area?
Here are my opinions about some of the stores mentioned . . .
McBride's: Closed Sunday. Good selection, friendly employees, HIGH prices.
Heritage: Second set of owners are ethically challenged. Ripped off once, I never darkened their door again. (Doggone forum rules on salty language . . . )
Sportsman's Warehouse: Good selection of rifles, pistols, and shotguns, including some EBRs. Friendly employees. Generally good prices, occasional sales during "customer appreciation days."
The Gun Store: Small selection, some class III stuff. They put together some EBRs themselves, I believe.
Texguns: Been there twice, proprietor was only interested in jawboning with his buddy each time. Tiny selection.
Academy: Decent prices on common guns - 870s, regular offerings from other manufacturers. Clerks are NOT very knowledgeable.
Cabela's: South of Austin off I-35 in Buda. Good selection, some fancy guns, but not the best prices around, unless you leverage coupons and specials.
Sportsman's Finest: http://www.sportsmansfinest.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Lots of high-end and Class III stuff. Only place I've been that had a 20mm cannon in stock.
Red's: Indoor range at both locations. Middle of the road prices, generally courteous staff.
Cost +10%: Heard it was up for sale. Went there once - owner was a rude, crusty old so-and-so, so I never went back.
GT Distributors: Mostly LEO sales, I've heard that sometimes they'll deal with a CHL holder, sometimes they won't.
Austin Gun Liquidators: New to me, I'll have to check them out.
