Re: Flying Continental... "No Problems" (Long Post)

I didn’t have to fill out anything. I signed the orange tag. Airport personnel tied the tag to the handle of the box that my 1911 came in. Locked firearm box went into soft-sided suitcase.(Orange tag outside of box) The people behind me probably didn’t even notice what was going on. Luck or procedur...

Re: casting 45 acp bullets

This works for me: Lee 6 cavity 200gr tumble lube semi-wadcutter (TL452-200-SWC ) De-greased with Brake Cleaner. Lube hinges with paraffin. Smoke (the mold) with a kitchen match. My alloy is clip on WWs, with stick-on WWs, with a little Tin solder (95% Tin spool from Grainger close-out) Flux with pi...

Re: This happened today...

First off, IMHO, what I have to post is more important for me to hear than anyone else reading the post. Discussions like this are important for CHL holders. (At least they’re important to me). I have thought long and hard about scenarios that I might be put into. What if I caught someone inside my ...

Limited Tin source at Grainger.com

I've been collecting wheel weights(90 pounds so far) to cast my own bullets. I just bought 6 spools(6lbs) of 97% tin solid wire solder from grainger.com. (Item #1ZHW2)(Limited supplies) 2 day delivery time.(today) Tax, shipping and $7 per spool brings the cost to about $9 per pound for the tin. Midw...

First Week

After one week of holding my CHL, I have carried constantly everyday throughout my “pants-wearing-hours”. I have had only minimal self-consciousness of having a weapon on me. I work with a dress shirt and tie, without a coat. I am very close to people all day. What I’m carrying: Kahr PM9. People on ...

Brand new (today) to CHL

Howdy, I got a late start in guns, but I guess you have to start somewhere. Now that I have my CHL, I feel a strong responsibility to become as competent as I can be. I know I lack experience with handguns, but I’m committed to getting better. I want to be prepared, but hope to never need to use a p...

Crime convictions: CHL relative to non-CHL

I took the course March 16. Status changed to "Processing" about April 15. Boredom is a bad thing. The results of boredom follow: I found the “Conviction Rates for CHL Holders in 2005 at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/ConvictionRatesReport2005.pdf It’s...

Re: Introduce yourself

My first post after lurking for several months on this great website. I never had any interest in firearms until late last year. I always thought (and still, to some degree) that having the inexperienced, uneducated “average Joe be able to carry a concealed weapon to be somewhat crazy. I consid...
