The problem with most semi auto shotguns is the trigger assembly and bolt getting dirty. Not the actual gas system. With The Saiga 12 it doesn't have that problem. The new modern semi auto shotguns though have been eliminating the orings, and the gas system is self regulating to make up for the difference in ammo loads. Id pick it over the pump any day, even the pump has different strokes with different loads so its practice practice practice with the pump, I just don't get to practice that much for pumps so I choose autoloader.fickman wrote:One problem. . . most semi-auto shotguns are unreliable during an actual emergency to cycle properly. They are sensitive to the ammo (need lots of recoil) and angle. I'd never trust one for life-and-death situations.Stupid wrote:For those who still like to use shotguns since having a gun is better than nothing, at least get semi-auto - there are many reasons why a semi-auto is so much better than a pump.

Re: Why a Home Defense Shotgun?
To add to this, the neighbor came to me today and said yall see those hogs running around, I said no and went back to doin what I was doing. Well they decided to come uproot my yard today its full of tracks and grass torn up with holes and lines of dirt. This makes me think though. Would you rather take the hog with a pistol or a shotgun? You dont want to chance it getting back up and hurting you so a shotgun would apply. Same with life threatening situations. Ill take any advantage I can. Doesnt matter if you have flashlights and all the gadgets, good for zombies, not good if you use if for real world and it goes to evidence with a $200 flashlight and $500 red dot. The simpler the better in this case unless you have a Saiga 12

Re: Why a Home Defense Shotgun?
I find this really interested. I debated on this one for 2 years trying to figure out which one is going in the safe and or coming out. I was using a ak for home defense with good hollow points, then some days a shotgun then some days a pistol. I just couldn't figure out which one I felt the most flexible with and comforted with as far as follow up shots and firepower. I then took into consideration of noise moving around etc. I have about 10 acres behind my house and about 2 sideways. One day I came home from work and I noticed crap flying out my storage building about a half acre from my house when I went to check my mail. I ran in and grabbed the shotgun I had (saiga 12) and went to check it out. As I was walking out there I noticed a person walk out then in real quick so I knew it wasn't a dog. I learned something really quick then. Time slows and having a shotgun instead of a pistol is really comforting. It ended up being some crack head stealing our stuff and no shots fired. The rifle wasn't practical then for being fairly close by the time I knew he was there. I just knew to them the shotgun was really scary and they said sorry and I called the cops. Thats a long story short. Now I sleep with the shotty next to me at night and sleep well I might add
